There is a simple way to return the favor. Money talks, and WSU is contributing more of it to the tournament than the other 9 schools combined.

You have to go back further than Creighton leaving. Whatever real influence we had in the Valley left when Tulsa left. We and Tulsa were the kings of the west. Several years ago, the Valley was fairly balanced between east and west -- there was North Texas State, West Texas State, and New Mexico State. None giants, I know, but they occasionally fielded some competitive teams. But as long as Wichita State and Tulsa were around, it was a viable conference. Now, it's like we're out on an island.

Several years? More like several decades.

North Texas State left in 1974 (40 years ago) - Is probably better know than it was in those days
West Texas State left in 1985 (29 years ago) - Now West Texas A&M (D-II)
New Mexico State left in 1983 (31 years ago) - It's just as far from Wichita as the Valley's current northeastern-most teams
