Gregg has worked very very hard to get WSU to where it is now.
It is because of him, that the reasons he would want to leave are narrowing rapidly.
If WSU could ever narrow the reasons to only money, we should consider ourselves extremely fortunate.
I agree that I think he sees another final 4 run with Fred and Ron. I dont think he leaves them."When life hands you lemons, make lemonade." Better have some sugar and water too, or else your lemonade will suck!

To put it in perspective, that's like going from 50k to 85k, or from 70k to 120k. (comparing 3m to 1.75m) Yes, I know that once you get into the millions, at some point money loses it's value, but how many people would really turn that down? Two sources close to search told me this week that Marshall turned down an offer worth approximately $3 million annually,"Hank Iba decided he wouldn't play my team anymore. He told me that if he tried to get his team ready to play me, it would upset his team the rest of the season." Gene Johnson, WU Basketball coach, 1928-1933.

Not to quibble, but 3G's compensation package here, even without incentive bonuses, is certainly worth more than $1.75m. Hell, tooling around on one of those Business Jets he's supplied with (per contract), even a small one, ain't cheap: www.jets.com/fleet-access-jet-card. Then there's all the insurance, pension, annuity payments, kids college fund payments. That's all guaranteed. Then you start throwing in a little incentive money, and 3G's guaranteed pay package here and what Misery offered wouldn't be all that far apart. Certainly not worth pissing off the wife and kids by moving them, and the hassle of starting all over again with a potential loser. And as I've said before, there's the job security of a seven year rolling contract. That's worth a hell of a lot more than $3.0m per year with the risk of getting fired after only three.

Edit: As for North Carolina, 1972, it's hard for me to imagine them picking someone not connected to their program in some way -- or for their fans accepting such a choice, especially some guy "at this level," however successful he may have been.Last edited by WSUwatcher; May 8, 2014, 12:11 AM.

Did we hit the lottery when Mark Turgeon left or what. Thought this part of the article was very interesting.
What’s going on at Maryland? Guard Seth Allen, forward Nick Faust, center Shaq Cleare and guard Roddy Peters have all left the team since the end of a 17-15 season in which the Terrapins failed to make the NCAA tournament and even the NIT.
“I’m a little bit of everything—surprised, angry disappointed,” Maryland coach Mark Turgeon told reporters this week. “All those emotions come into it. But what am I going to do? Am I going to sit here and cry about it? No. I’m going to recruit players and get to 13 (scholarships) and ... we’ll hopefully be a tighter group because of it.”
Maybe so, but another mediocre-to-dismal season seems inevitable. And if that happens, you have to wonder whether Turgeon’s job will be in jeopardy. The former Texas A&M coach has yet to make the NCAA tournament after arriving from Texas A&M in the summer of 2011."Political Correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media,
which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end."

I find it hard to believe that he would have told representatives from another school that he was "waiting for something better". First of all it would be a Delta Bravo move in an interview type situation and I can't see him burning any bridges with another program like that. I can't imagine telling someone in a job interview that their company isn't as good as other options I would be interested in. Secondly those types of comments would inevitably make their way into the public and I'm sure he isn't interested in WSU knowing that was his feeling even if it were true. He doesn't seem to enjoy answering questions about his leaving WSU and a comment like that would only lead to more speculation as it has here. For those reasons I'm not sure how much stock you can put into that comment.
