I'm sure 20 years ago Boise State fans were mocked for having a vision of being more than a second rate program in a third rate state. They were a glorified junior college. Look where they are today. I'm not saying we are Boise State but you have to have a vision. I'd rather have clear eyes, try for something and fail than sit around being myopic, hoping that Doug Elgin does something smart for a change.

All of the other athletes were being pulled along by those four. He didn't believe that the NCAA should pay for all athletes. Bruce of course, argued with him and stated that there was no way that the NCAA wouldn't pay all athletes in the department. Rainbolt said that his T/F athletes were getting a great student/athlete experience. Rainbolt is right on with his opinions.
I'm not sure I understand his comments. He thinks that just Ron, Fred, Cle, and Tekele (I'm guessing) should be paid? Only pay the important guys? So, under this idea, would Ron have been paid last year? I don't argue that he was a key cog but he was also hurt majority before he made his big impact.

Look, this is college athletics. If you want to get paid, go play overseas until you are eligible for your major pro sports league....or take your paycheck and pay for your tuition. Can't have cake and eat it too. Yes, Gregg gets paid very handsomely off the performance of these amateurs. Gregg also has been a head coach for 16 years and many more as an assistant making jack squat before that. Take advantage of that free education and work hard in your professional career (sports or otherwise), and you can have a chance to make 3G money.

It sounds to me like he's saying, if we're going to go down this road, this idea that players are more like employees, then let's go all the way and pay according to the value each player brings, just like the pros.

There's a reason Lebron James makes exponentially more than Toure Murry. If you want a cut of the value you say you bring the university, then let's assign a value to the portion of your contribution that brings in revenue. Makes sense to me.

I'm not sure that he's saying to pay them like pros. I think that he is saying that to pay everyone, will change what college athletics is too much. I think that he would limit paying anything to football and basketball only and then have limits to it. I could be wrong but he wasn't talking about sports like baseball, Track and Field, etc.

There was a power outage at MSU earlier this week, and for 3 hours over 20 students were stranded on an escalator.

I figured it out! The Bears think a move to the Sun Belt will end their NCAA drought. With Hinson at SIU, Wichita State a fixture at the top of the league and teams like UNI always being good, it may be a long time before they reach the tournament if they stay in the Valley.

They want to be the least little fish in a tiny pond rather than a teeny-weeny, itsy bitsy fish in the Valley pond.

Oh, and they want football. They get like five games a year on campus now, A move to the Sun Belt gets them zero more. I see what a big deal it is to offer students five home games against ****. **** you lose to anyway.
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

This is not a bad point :)
If you can go a billion years and never make the dance in the MISSOURI Valley Conference (emphasized for the irony of the only Missouri school trying to leave a conference with that name), maybe you should try a conference where you are way more likely to win the conference tournament.

You'll definitely win a lot of basketball games in the Sun Belt. If you want to PLAY football, its not that bad of a move. Now, if you want to be RELEVANT at football, let's be real...

I am only currently accepting arguments regarding a LLOOOONNNGGGG term plan that includes eventually also leaving the Sun Belt later if any Bears fans want to paint this like some kind of a step up. Something along the lines of "tuck tail between legs, go dominate a different conference, establish somewhat of a name after many years of looking decent, then parlay the whole endeavor into maybe getting an invite to a better conference..."

Right now, it looks like a 6th grade wannabe bully trying out a 5th grade school yard when he couldn't get anywhere in his yard.

Only problem with their theory is it usually turns out like ...

"tuck tail between legs, try to dominate a different conference, come to realize that recruiting excellent leadership (ADs and coaches) to crappy conferences is very difficult, watch all sports decline to the common denominator of the conference you are in due to lack of good leadership, ...."

Not sure where to stick in "realize that you are maybe the northern most school in your new conference" ...

Well, at least they will be competitive in head basketball coaches salary. I heard Lusk just got a five year extension bringing his salary to around $350,000. With incentives and outside revenue, he will be over the $400,000 threshold. That is big money in the "Belt."

It's official, MSU is not going to the Sun Belt. In a statement released today, MSU turned down the money and exposure of the "Belt" and will wait for an invite from the B1G. A B1G official, wearing a B1G polo, was Seen taking a piss at the Springfield airport. Also, the MSU AD was seen with a Manila envelope that may contain money. It is also possible that the envelope contained a pair of earbuds purchased on Ebay, but who knows?

The corpse of John Q Hammons was on hand for the announcement.
