Chauncey Orr (the son of fired Bowling Green HC Louis Orr) is going to stay and play for Jans. That's interesting. Looks like he missed all but one game this year after knee surgery, but averaged 7 ppg last season as a sophomore.

Surely I'm not the only one confused? What a 'dip$hit' I have become.

I bet for at least year 1 Jans will just need bodies like Marshall did.

Also I'll be curious to see how much of Marshall basketball Jans takes with him.

Looking at the roster, they only graduate 2 guys and have some size coming back. So long as everyone stays, this is not a bad way to start.

            Greetings from Columbus, Ohio.

As a BGSU almnus I'm really excited about the potential of this hire. Looking forward to seeing what he can do. When I was there Jim Larranaga was the head coach. He has obviously moved on to George Mason and is now at Miami Florida.

Our new AD, Chris Kingston has been busy in his short time at the school. He just hired Chris Jans and a few months ago he hired football coach Dino Babers from Eastern Illinois to replace Dave Clawsen who took the position at Wake Forest.

If both of these hires work out he might be on his way to big and brighter things.

Are your baseball teams still strong? I recall quite a few trips to Omaha a few years back.

Most of us are sad to see Chris Jans leave Wichita State but are happy for him as well. He has been a terrific asset to the resurgence of our basketball program. It is hard for be to believe that Chris won't be successful at BGSU. I think you guys made a great hire.

Your not getting a Fancy Dan, we don't really have many, if any, of those at Wichita State. What your getting is an honest, hard-working, tough-minded, lunch-pail toting grinder who will give you everything he's got.

Our baseball program is still pretty good but it has been too many years since we have been to Omaha (1996 was our last trip to the CWS) We have been to a dozen regionals and a couple of super-regionals since then but our stays seem to be getting shorter and shorter. Of course, the College Baseball landscape has changed a lot in the last 15 years and getting to Omaha is tougher than ever, especially for a cold-weather school. We did make a change at the top of our program at the end of last season. A somewhat controversial change replacing legendary Head Coach, Gene Stephenson, after 35 years. Gene resurrected our program from the ashes (literally) in 1978 and lead the Shocks to heights no one thought possible. But the program seemed to have grown somewhat stale and moribund in recent years and they Athletic Administration decided to go a different direction. Time will only tell how that works out, but the program does seem to have a new vitality to it early on. Maybe that's just the normal honeymoon period.

If anything, it's good he left now.. So that if Marshall leaves in the next 3-5 years we have a d1 experienced head coach ready to take over

Some people just can't help themselves. Just believeg that he's not going anywhere instead of worrying.

Any school that boasts Orel Hershiser and Tim Conway as alumni is ok in my book. The Stroh center (seating capacity less than 4,000) seems a little small for such a large (18,000) student population. Wondering if it is about normal for MAC schools to have similar seating capacities?

Loved, LOVED the Bulldog when I was a kid. The Dodgers World Series title in '88 was one of my early memories of watching sports.

While the MAC is a solid basketball conference, that part of the country certainly does have the depth of basketball madness that we do in Kansas. Ohio is football country. You certainly don't want to build too big of an arena. 4,000 seems to be about right.

Considering that's why Florida Gulf Coast didn't hire him, I would imagine that's why BGSU did.
