- 1 seeds have never lost to a 16, and have won the title 11 of the last 15 years. But only once have all four #1 seeds made it to the Final Four.
- At least one 2 seed has lost in the first weekend 16 of the last 17 years
- 9 of the last 10 Final Fours have had at least one team seeded 3, 4, or 5 (15 total)
- 6 seeds have lost in the first round 39 times and advanced to the Sweet 16 or farther 41 times
- 7 seeds haven't made the Final Four since 1984 and have never won a title
- 8 and 9 seeds have only knocked off a 1 seed 15 times since the tournament expanded in 1985 (out of 112 games)
- 10 and 11 seeds rarely win their first game, but those that do have good odds of winning another. Usually a couple end of in the Sweet 16 and the rest lose early
- At one 12 seed has won their first game in the last six tournaments. But no 12 seed has ever beaten a 1 seed in the Sweet 16.
- A 13 seed has knocked off a four seed six years in a row.
- 14 seeds have won only 5 times since 1999
- 15 seeds have won four games in the last two tournaments, but only won four games before that
- 16 seeds have never won against a #1 seed.
- The last 15 championship teams have been seeded in the Top 3.
- Neither the Pac 12 or B1G has produced a champion in 13 seasons
- Only 4 times in the last 23 years has the title winner been ranked #1 in the last polls
- A top four seed has lost in the Round of 64 each of the last six tournaments. A total of 49 such upsets have occurred in the 28 years since the tournament expanded.
- Top four seeded teams that do lose generally are much better on one side of the ball, for example in 2012 Duke and Missouri had top 10 offenses and sub-80 defenses.
- Champions don't lose in the first round of their conference tournament
- At least one of the blue bloods (UK, KU, UNC, Duke, Indiana, UCLA) has made the Final Four in 27 of the last 28 tournaments (last year being the exception).
