I happened to actually be at that game and the number seemed legitimate. And yes I had left by that point.

Always like to read the comments after a column like this and most were typical responses. One however says he now lives in Wichita and we are REALLY worried that misery is going to steal HC3G2L from WSU. Now I ask you, "Are you worried"?

We apparently aren't the only ones who thinks the Tennessee job isn't the best ---

2 quick thoughts:
1 - Marshall isn't going to Mizzou. If he is even humoring them, it is because he feels there is some advantage for him to wait before telling them no. He already knows the answer is no.
2 - I love the back and forth in the last 2 pages of this thread. Highly entertaining for a multitude of reasons.

Fair enough for those that say they are not worried. Tennessee and Missouri do not concern me much. But this is what worries me -- there are NBA jobs out there now open or will be shortly. Lakers and Knicks are probably the most interesting. Does anyone think Jackson will coach the Knicks or go shopping for a coach? I'm not thinking that Marshall will be interested in a NBA job just yet, but if a very successful college coach gets tabbed, that would leave a vacancy (unless filled from within) at probably a very good program and one Marshall just may very well be interested in. I will be glad when all the dust settles for another year and we still have our coach.

When Marshall moved from Winthrop to Wichita State, he upgraded to:
A much better salary
Not needing to win a tournament to get into the dance
Better facilities
Better recruiting
More history
Additionally, he found a city and university that fully backed him, from the fans to the AD to the president of the university. He has stated that even then, he wouldn't want to go through another rebuild. So why would Marshall skip town to go through a total rebuild at Missouri or Tennessee for roughly equal money, slightly better facilities, less history (total combined FFs at both schools = 0). More importantly, why would he go through the potential problems with schools and fanbases that proven themselves to be fickle and unsupportive?
I think it would take an elite school with a good returning roster, great recruiting, a huge salary to throw away, and very quality support to lure Marshall away. A perfect situation, in other words. And don't worry about UK, KU, UNC, or Duke. Those schools are going to fill their vacancies from within, using their own coaching trees. That is the way they have operated for nearly century now, and they aren't going to change for their next coach. The most dangerous threats are Indiana, Texas, and the NBA. Indiana and Texas have access to incredible amounts of money, support all of their programs very well, and have great recruiting opportunities.
The NBA is probably the biggest threat though. They can pay more than colleges can, and they are inherently structured in a way that promotes an eye for talent. Whereas blue blood coaches can usually rely on a talent advantage to win games (ie, out recruit the other teams), that is never a possibility in the NBA. The coaches used to finding diamonds in the rough and utilizing the talents they have are much better suited for the NBA. Several great coaches have tried their hand and failed at the NBA (Pitino, Calipari), but the problem is that the NBA has been picking the wrong college coaches. Brad Stevens, even on a very poor team has made a lot of NBA teams start reconsidering college coaches. I think some will start to realize that Izzo, Hoiberg, and Marshall all have a better mixture for NBA success than their blue blooded rivals, and that is when I will start worrying about Marshall's departure.
