    • Probably unnecessary, but really can't boast top tier fan support in MU like HC3G sees in Wichita:

Year WSU Attendance % Capacity Record MU Attendance % Capacity Record Source
      2007-2008 10,478 99.7% 11-20 8,060 53.7% 16-16 Link
      2008-2009 10,095 96.1% 17-17 9,805 65.4% 31-7 Link
      2009-2010 10,333 98.4% 25-10 10,349 69.0% 23-11 Link
      2010-2011 10,428 99.3% 29-8 11,112 74.1% 23-11 Link
      2011-2012 10,391 98.9% 27-6 11,830 78.9% 30-5 Link
      2012-2013 10,312 98.2% 30-9 11,996 80.0% 23-11 Link
Don't have data for 2013-2014 yet, but can't say it's looking good for MU (their arena sits 15k!).

If he's proven anything, it's that HC3G is a smart man. I'm not worried.

      • Those numbers are inflated too. I've seen games @ Mizzou that look even worse than non-con games @ Bramlage.

That is completely bogus. Plus they do attendance by actual butts in seats, not just tickets sold. Many of the lower level ticket holders are bad about actually attending games but the upper level seats are a different story. A somewhat fickle fanbase absolutely. But I can absolutely 100% guarantee you that they do not put out bogus attendance numbers.

I think the point is that the fandom of MU is pretty hit and miss from game to game, year to year. 2013-14 attendance numbers will probably drop closer to the 10,000 range. While MU drew 14,000 for Tennessee, it drops to 11,700 for UK, and a few conference games under 10,000. In the non-con, MU managed only 8,800 for a ranked UCLA, 7,300 for WVU, and had at least 3 games less than 7,000, the lowest being 6,000 for IUPUI. So while the average numbers may not be inflated, there are games where 6,000 in a 15,000 arena will look like you could shoot a cannon ball through and not hit anyone.

Overall I agree with you ShockTalk. To be fair with some of those games however, an ice storm happened the same day as the UK game. I actually had tickets to the game but wasn't able to make it and I live in Columbia now. The West Virginia and UCLA games happened the same week as Mizzou played in the SEC Championship in football in Atlanta. The WVU game was on Thursday so many were already en route and the UCLA game was the same day. It was actually the lead in on CBS before their football coverage. Additionally their top 5 volleyball team was hosting an NCAA second round match that same night at the Hearnes Center. In short it was the perfect storm to negatively impact attendance.

But I do agree with your point. I live amongst them and they are a fickle bunch in regard to basketball. There has been a disconnect since Norm Stewart left. Ultimately I think that is one of several reasons why Gregg Marshall won't be interested in the position. I think he wants to be king of the castle wherever he coaches and that is not happening at any SEC school outside of Kentucky.

There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

Good heavens -- in Marshall's second year, WSU's team that ended .500 outdrew a 30+ win Missouri team playing in a 15,000 seat arena? That's just stunning, and not in a good way. How can Missouri fans not be embarrassed even talking about WSU and Marshall? Also makes you wonder -- as if this requires any encouragement -- what Lutz could be thinking in suggesting Missouri as a place in which Marshall might be interested.

                      • That picture looks like it was taken during the last 40 seconds of the SE Louisiana game. A 36 point Missouri win. That is Frank Haith's son Corey (a walk on) shooting the basketball. The listed attendance for that game was just shy of 8,000. I happened to actually be at that game and the number seemed legitimate. And yes I had left by that point.

I don't feel I am making an outlandish argument here. They have had bad attendance since moving to Mizzou Arena. Compared to the Norm Stewart heyday at the Hearnes Center. That's a fact. I don't think it means that they lie about attendance however.

                        • I actually thought there was 40+ seconds left but then I thought I must be reading it wrong since there's obviously 28 seconds on the shot clock. Wouldn't be too classy to be chucking up an NBA 3-pointer to secure a 2-for-1 opportunity in a 36 point game.

                          • This argument is really getting old. I DON'T CARE! Put it to rest.

                            • I think Lusking is JH4P's evil twin from Missouri.

Edit: No, that can't be right -- doesn't the concept of an evil twin connote a good twin, too? Wrong analogy, at least when it comes to endless and pointless Shockernet arguments that should be conducted via PM.

Do your Bare buddies know at what extent you defend the Missouri at Columbia school?

Now I know why you're banned from every MSU message board. Well, one of several reasons.
