I'm just not seeing Shaka Smart to Marquette. They have vacancies in both the Athletic Department and University President positions. I don't see Shaka walking into a blind situation, especially since he has great support from his administration at VCU.

I'm wondering if Buzz Williams' move to VaTech perhaps to be followed Chris Mack moving from Xavier to Wake Forest. I'm wondering how much a factor upgrading conferences is behind these moves being made or considered..

If Mack follows Williams out the Big East door then that league is looking pretty questionable outside of Villanova, Georgetown and perhaps Providence.

I wouldn't worry much about Xavier staying afloat in the new Big East. They've been good more often than not for a while now -- sometimes very good -- and their intense rivalry with Cincinnati won't permit them to drop off too dramatically, lest the Bearcats totally rule the city. Now, Creighton without McD, Gibbs, et. al., may be a different story...

Edit: Of course, one could probably make the same argument about K-State that I did about Xavier -- i.e, that their intense rivalry with the Chickenhawks won't permit them to fall too far behind, lest KU totally take over; and how many years did it take for KSU to win one even IN Manhattan? So maybe Xavier isn't as safe a bet as I'm guessing. But I like their chances to sustain a solid program.

When I saw the Marshall name on that list my heart skipped a beat, then I realized that was Marshall University. Marshall my make a run at 3G trying to convince him that they have already named the university after him, but I think Gregg is too sharp to fall for that ploy.
