Maybe they lose in the MVC tourney and get demoted to the 12-seed play-in game? That'd piss 'em off.

As others have said, if the shockers get the #1, some in the media will begin to make their case that they don't deserve it. Boom. Now the shockers are motivated to prove they deserve their seeding.

If the shockers get the #2 seed I believe we would hear crickets. No one, not even the dumbest ass of them all, would argue about a 34-0 or 33-1 team getting a 2 seed. Of course I could be wrong about that. But if not then where is the extra motivation going to come from? Is Marshall going to rally the troops against a nameless, faceless, selection committee?

Again, I don't believe this team needs external motivation. At the same time I don't think it would hurt. But from my view point we'll get much more bulletin board material as a 1 seed than a 2.

Because the difference from a 1 and 2 seed is the exact same as the difference in a 1 and 12 seed... How are we ever going to win a game if we aren't a #1 seed? They should make up a new seed for us that is even better than a 1 seed! We can be a .5 seed

I was much more talking about the future regarding that comment. I don't want Gregg to decide, much as he did at Winthrop when they got an 11 for a dream season, that the best he can get at WSU is a #2 and decide he needs to move on. And lets be entirely honest, if we don't get a 1 seed this year we will never have a chance at a 1 so long as we are in the MVC.

And yes, I will again state I think you're opinion is ignorant. Nothing wrong with that, both are our opinions.

There is a difference between being fueled by disrespect and wanting to be respected.

The Shockers have had single digit wins only 6 times this season. That is 24 double-digit wins by an average margin of 17.4points. The six were 5 true road games and one at IBA. In only two of those did we trail at the 12:00 minute mark of the game:

            Opponent 12-minute Final
            @ St.Louis -2 5
            Tennessee 3 9
            @ Alabama 5 5
            @ Missouri St -16 3
            @ Indiana State 12 7
            @ Northern Iowa 10 9
We've won the 14 away/neutral games by an avarage of 12.9 points
We've won the 15 home/IBA games by an average of 15.5 (excluding Emporia State 43 point victory)

In the home games, the last 8 minutes we incrreased the margin by only 2.7 points, largely dur to liberal substitutions.

If the Shockers are still undefeated going into selection Sunday then they will be a 1 seed. The media experts will get all hot and bothered about that in advance, but I just don’t see the selection committee wavering much about giving the 1 seed to an undefeated WSU team. Getting to selection Sunday undefeated is still the challenge. This team is likely to rise to the challenge, but I’ve always hated conference tournaments in general and Arch Madness in particular gives me the creeps. Regular season champions should get the automatic bids, with conference tournament winners going into some sort of eligibility pool for at-large bids. Winning the season should mean a lot more than winning a weekend, but that’s a gripe for some other thread. From early on this season every undefeated game has been a pressure game. It’s not going to be easy to win the next four games. If they pull that off, and I think that they will, then the pressure of being a NCAA 1 seed will help instead of hurt this team.

To some degree, winning the season should mean more than winning 3 or 4 games in St. Louis or 6 or 7 (although play-in will NEVER happen) in the NCAA. Same argument can be made for either.

I totally agree that we deserve a #1 seed and if we get to selection sunday undefeated there is no way we don't get one. We will have plenty of motivation if we get a #1 or #2 seed. This team is mentally tough and focused. I was just making a comment that being slighted once again wouldn't hurt them, but potentially provide extra motivation. It is the big dance. All the teams will be motivated and prepared. Maybe that little extra motivation could push them over the edge.

I personally could go either way on a 1 or 2 seed in the tournament....but holy snykees batman....we are talking about a 1 or 2 seed. Hear me again slowly....1 OR 2 Seed. Last year at this time we were still cutting our teeth on all this attention...we had no idea this team would be in the Final 4...much less a 30-0 start to the season. So...1 or 2 seed is A-OK by me.
Specifically, on Selection Sunday last year, I remember being one of the last teams announced and I was starting to think we wouldn't even make it in!

It is, WSU is setting records, a deserving #1. Too many people are still bewildered by a mid-major being #1. Enjoy the ride and ride it as long as you can. Someone has to win. It seems to me many are afraid to do so.
One game at a time. I like our chances Saturday against MSU. EVERYONE in the building needs to bring it.

Play-in at-large---while it probably will not happen, it's not out of the realm of possibility. VCU was a play-in that went to the Final Four.

I hope we lose in the Final Four. I don't want the pressure of being the defending National Champion next year. Look at how badly it has impacted Louisville.
