  • The Lord works in mysterious ways..

F: Mark Turgeon whining ... again—The Maryland coach has a history of complaining that dates back to his days at Texas A&M. His latest beef is with the officials who failed to call a foul against Syracuse that would’ve sent Nick Faust to the free throw line with seven seconds remaining in Saturday’s 57-55 home loss. Hall of Fame coach Jim Boeheim scoffed at Turgeon’s comments. “If they didn’t turn it over 18 times they wouldn’t have to worry about that,” Boeheim said. Turgeon, whose squad will miss the NCAA Tournament for the third straight year, went on to say that he thinks his team is “better than (Syracuse) in this building if we play the way we’re capable and don’t turn it over.” It was a clear lesson on how not to handle a press conference.

More than once this season, a broadcaster assigned to a Nebraska basketball game has asked how to pronounce Terran Petteway’s name. For the record, it’s “ta-RAN PET-away...

Watching the Jim Boeheim meltdown the other night, I think that coaches giving full vent to their emotions are how things are handled "at this level."

              • I will most likely never see the Shockers or any other team I like go 30 and 0 again as long as I live.

                • I've started reading before going to bed lately. I've read two books, one of which is about the 90-91 Chicago Bulls season, and another is a biography about Michael Jordan during that time period, and I'm currently reading "Glory Road", an autobiography about Don Haskins, who was of course the coach of Texas Western/UTEP.

In all three books, I've seen references to Wichita State. Cliff Levingston of course played on that 90-91 Chicago Bulls team and although the book talks a little bit about the problems he had, he was a likable guy on the team. Xavier McDaniel played for the Knicks team in 1992 that took the Bulls to a 7 game series before losing. He definitely wasn't a favorite of the Bulls players.. And lastly, in Glory Road, Haskins talks about how every big school at the time like UK, K-State, KU, Oklahoma A&M, all had only white players. He goes on to say that the first black player he ever coached against was Cleo Littleton of Wichita State.

                  Pretty cool stuff.

Net income for playing at home is significantly more than the amount we would receive being “bought”.

I was in the KU Student Union all day yesterday, coaching my team at the state scholastic chess tournament. I rocked the WSU hockey sweater all day. I got a couple of mean mugs early in the day, but nobody said s*** to me, and after the ... ahem ... EARLY game, no beaker even dared look me in the eye. I didn't crow about the KU loss, because KU was actually quite nice to let us use the Union for the state tournament and you don't s*** on a good host, but it was obvious that people in Larryville know we're legit.

This isn't just a good team, this isn't just a really good team, this isn't just a historically good Wichita State team, it is a historically good college basketball team. This isn't even a debate anymore, it's just fact.

Take the next week off, fans. Get rested up. Next Sunday, we see the course the Selection Committee charts for us.

But being in my best friends wedding sat, seeing the shocks play all weekend, running into toure murry before todays game, and watch wushock jam out on the drums while the more cowbell band member was rocking hard too lol were all among some of the best memories in a long time in St. Louis! Good times!
