That "poll" question sounds like it was asked by a third grader. They're always asking questions like, "If you had to eat one, would you rather eat a pile of maggot infested bird guts, or a flaming plate of goat poop?"

I'll take the maggot infested bird guts every time over the flaming plate of goat poop.

it's purely hypothetical but I'd take the 40-0. WSU would make history and it would be a feat probably never matched. That said, HCGM has potentially his best recruiting class ever coming in, so I'm not worried about him bolting after this season. He's just getting started.

Hypothetically, I would take the 40-0 National Championship because realistically if that did happen (and the odds have to be pretty low that it would) I agree with those that believe 3G would really have no reason to leave at that point. He would have accomplished something that he would very unlikely be able to duplicate either at Wichita State or anywhere else on planet earth, plus if that did happen I have to believe Eric Sexton will busy glad handing our major donors to put together some kind of incentive deal to keep 3G hear for at least another 10 years. Not sure 3G wants to coach much longer than that and we would need to make sure he doesn't have to if he doesn't want to.

            Is this really a question?

40-0, it's NOT CLOSE, and I would help Gregg pack if he asked.

It was a stupid question and served the purpose of getting people to call in on a Thursday when there wasn't **** to talk about.

The obvious answer is A. You take the greatest season in college basketball history. They aren't going to add games to the schedule so 40-0 will be the best mark ever. Getting another coach won't be a problem nor will talent. But you take the perfect season. Duh. That's why it is a stupid question.

Unless those maggot infested bird guts are from an ostrich. That's a LOT of maggot infested bird guts. Seriously though.

With Gregg's last contract extension, he agreed to not restructure again for a couple years...but yes, you'd have something ready to offer him when that time passes and he can ask for another raise.

I always like it when I agree with you Doc. I mean, I already know I'm right because I'm not having a conversation with my wife. But seeing this helps me know I'm really REALLY right.

Plus whatever NBA team HCGM goes to I would become an instant fan. (I say Lakers where HCGM eventually leads them to more titles than Phil).

Also if this were to happen the question isn't if we lose HCGM. Because we won't. That's stupid.

The question is do you rename 21st or do you rename Hillside to Marshall Way?

I'm not thinking so much about renegotiating his current deal put adding to it with pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Of course, if we did get into a bidding war with the big boys (i.e. Texas) there probably is some point at which we simply can't keep up (if it comes down strictly to money which it rarely does with 3G).

The more the Shockers are on TV and the more they win, the more times that "Charles Koch Arena" is muttered where others can hear/see it, that is giving Charles Koch a pretty good return on his investment. If he decided he wanted to enhance the odds of WSU and Charles Koch Arena remaining in the national media on a regular basis, he could damn well compete with any of the "big boys" of which you speak. When it comes to checkbooks, I side with the local Koch brothers.

                            It's and idiotic question

                            It's like asking:

                            Would you rather:
                            A) The Chiefs win the Super Bowl and relocate the franchise?
                            B) Lose in the divisional round, and make the playoffs 5 straight years?

The NBA is the only scenario you are talking about in the hypothetical.

I take the elite 8 and five years. Indiana State didn't make it back to the dance for 21 years following their once in a lifetime season.

I guess one stupid question deserves another. If we were to go 40-0, win the NC, and Marshall does leave, what makes you think our "great" recruiting class for next year stays intact? We know that kids commit to a coach, not a school. And what makes you think you can get a great coach to come here to stand in the shadow of the legend that Marshall would leave. Any new coach would have VERY big shoes to fill (with a great deal of expectation and pressure from a rabid fan base). Have we forgotten the 90's and early 2000's so soon. I would like to never see those kind of years again. Could you get someone willing to try -- sure -- but are we as fans willing to settle for someone that would "try" to get to the same place. Look at the history of GM, VCU and Butler. Not that any of these schools won the NC but they came damn close and two of the three lost their coach and have not maintained their national prominence. Marshall I'm sure would rather have the NC on his resume, but I would rather have Marshall stay (preferably with the NC). Doc says to embrace change -- I like things just fine right now. This is all conjecture as we well know. NC or not, Marshall will do as he feels best for him and his family and we have absolutely no control over that
