After all, it's really been more of a GA section than a student section before the last 8 games.
Obviously the student to GA conversion situation is a different one from the student guest issue - a student can pick up a guest ticket earlier than Joe Public can buy an unused student section ticket.Last edited by SHOCKvalue; February 10, 2014, 02:20 PM.

I don't have a problem with the guest tickets too much....but if the demand is going to be like this, maybe the guest tickets could be made available a couple days or maybe a week later to give all students a chance to get them first. I had told anyone asking about tickets to befriend a student as the student guest ticket was the best route to go.

I'm warming up in the RSC between classes and ADES is walking around, chatting away with students, working the crowd as he is known to do. He asks a couple students how they're day is going. They replied that they were doing well, but joked about not being able to get tickets. He informed the students that their tickets were free. They knew and informed him that all the student tickets had been snatched away, and it seemed as if he was unaware of that fact at the moment. He simply tells the students "That's why you gotta show up early," pats the students on the back and disappears around the corner. About five minutes later, he returns to the students and informs them that he had reserved two more GA tickets for them, wrote a note for them to hand to those at the ticket office, and continued about his day.
Really cool to witness ADES make somebody's day like that. He is setting a great example for everyone around him. Kudos ADES! Kudos!"Hank Iba decided he wouldn't play my team anymore. He told me that if he tried to get his team ready to play me, it would upset his team the rest of the season." Gene Johnson, WU Basketball coach, 1928-1933.

The Athletics Department has a whole off season to figure out what they want to do. The last two sets of student tickets were a lot harder to come by due to the success of the team, but that doesn't mean there is not room for improvement on policies before next year. There are a few things that I think they need to consider:
1) Student Guest Tickets - If guest tickets are going to be available, the 2 guest ticket cap needs to be enforced. Many people in front of me were buying more than 2 guest tickets, with one person I heard getting 5 of them for a game. This is not fair to students. I'm not convinced that we need to do away with the guest tickets or place a 24-48 hour limit on buying them, but it needs to be considered.
2) Ticket Lottery - Maybe hold 50 GA seats for students who miss out on the 2 hour morning ticket rush? Have students who don't get seats sign up for a lottery and then hit them with emails/texts to come pick up the last few seats on a first come/first serve basis 2-3 days before the game. This still rewards people showing up early, but gives the unfortunate a chance.
3) Seating - This isn't ticket related, but the human meat grinder approach to student seating in Marshallville needs to have some more rules. I haven't seen people getting shoved or smashed yet, but running halfway around the arena after getting in the door doesn't seem necessary. Maybe (just maybe) they could invest in the staff to have students (or just Shocker Maniacs) get to wait inside with the actual arena roped off until the normal 5:30 time.

From my perspective.
I was also in line from 9:30 to about 10 am this morning. I have NEVER waited in line for tickets for my 4th year as a student. This was something else. Four separate lines that reached all the way to the back doors. So yes, the hype was real.
As for guest tickets, I agree there is a problem, but only recently and I might sound like a hypocrite. I've been getting guest tickets for my fiancee the past two years because she is not a student but supports the team almost as much as I do. The guest ticket situation has never been a problem until today or the past couple of pick up dates this year. While in line, I heard nearly everyone ask for a guest ticket or two and that kind of surprised me.
All in all, if it's going to be like this next year, they should probably reserve it to just one guest ticket per game per student. Maybe put a separate time when they're available like people suggested. And then enforce it.

Yeah, they shouldn't allow guest tickets until after students get 1st pick. Check this out http://wichita.craigslist.org/tix/4329702917.html

OK heres the deal. One of our SN guys coran13 needs two tickets to each of the last two home games for him and his wife. I was able to help him with the one I had because I gave another SN guy one ticket for both games also. I'm sure there is someone out there with one ticket to both games that you can GIVE the guy so he AND his wife can attend. Its supposed to be a surprise for her since they weren't able to get in line soon enough to get tickets. Lets make this happen. He doesn't care where the ticket is because he and the wife will sit with the students.
