MSU's Feelings Hurt (re Gregg's Comments)

who cares?
Really I think what Coach said wasnt a dig a Michigan State, but at the BCS Myth. That only those guys can be the elites. I think it was said at the end of a long day and he is getting a little tired of defending the schedual, which really doesnt need it. Our non-con. was anything but soft. He is really defending the players and the program which he does so well. We will never ever get the respect form the beakers up north and really who cares. Look at where we had to start the season, ranked 17th with 75% of our players back, with 3 starters back. We have made the long slow climb up to no. 4 only to be leapfroged twice. Its not like we were handed 21 straight wins and a no. 4 ranking, we earned it with our players working their ass off along with the coaches. So if he mis-speaks after some media-jerk trying to pull his chain, so what. I wouldnt want any otheir coach or players, I for one think with all the pressure on their backs they are doing just fine. Now go rip Loyola a new one...

The context was something along the lines of "out of the frying pan and into the fire...up next...the Mighty Spartans from Michigan State..."
Obviously Gus' commentary shouldn't be misconstrued as a snarky remark but it does demonstrate that referring the the Spartans as mighty is commonplace.

The amount of people who defend his comments on stuff like this blows my mind. He is a Great coach (top five IMO) and hopefully there is a reason he needs to do this, but I am not sure why one would think it is helping WSU. I hope he shows some restraint in the future, but I am not counting on it.

Marshall said "did the mighty Spartans lose again?"
I say crap like that in jest all the time. It never means I have disrespect or anything. It's funny. Rankings change every week. It's not like he said "F the mighty Spartans" or "THAT'S WHAT Y'ALL GET FOR THROWING THE FOOTBALL TO A MEDIOCRE WIDE RECEIVER LIKE TOM IZZO!!!!"
Gregg Marshall is having fun with his basketball team and making fun of pollsters... Who question his team constantly. I doubt he is even that mad that they do. It's just a casual ribbing. The words he said were very mild. This one definitely falls under "any press is the good kind." All it really means is MSU fans will know his name.
