Gus G. did put a few games 'in the ole deep-freeze' in premature fashion a few times way back when. The Shocks have shown they can overcome deficits, play good teams and overcome their best shots to our jaw and counter flurries with a win. The 2 main concerns here on SN are valid. The Shocks have to play the 1st half better, knowing our quality depth will "kick-in" the 2nd half, and we have to stay healthy.

Last Season we were picked 4th in the Valley and made the Final 4. We peaked at the right time. Baker making it back was a needed shot in our arm that spoke volumes. The fact that players like Cotton who played behind Wessel, FVV who was Armstead's understudy, Wiggins who lifted us at times on offense, etc. all got their chance to step up and do more and did just that. Another big factor was Cle seemed to stuggle at the Lew and was not feeling well. However, when the brightest of bright lights were beaming down, Early was not late.

In the scheme of things, we are not picked 4th in the Valley now, but are ranked sky high in the Nation. On paper, I still think we have a small edge over last Season's Shocks, even when we were peaking. The hardwood and paper do not always agree. Even so, keep us healthy and playing strong for close to 40 minutes solid, game in, and out, and in the big games, then I really like what I see and like our chances to finish strong.
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.

No, we've not been down double digits at halftime -- but this has been for the most part to, face it, not the type of teams we will likely be up against in March. I would not like to be down 8 at halftime against most of the teams in the Dance. We need to get into the habit of leading at halftime and hopefully leading by more than a few. We have the talent. I don't understand any more than Marshall does about the slow starts. Hopefully this is fixable.
