Just a note to @Dan: before I get to the heart of my post, UCLA did win a National Championship in '95 and 3 more F4s in the 2000s.
I think the Top 4 are fairly clear: UCLA 11 titles, 18 F4s, 45 appearances / Kentucky 8 titles, 15 F4s, 52 appearances / UNC 5 titles, 18 F4s, 44 appearances, / Duke 4 titles, 15 F4s, 37 appearances.
The next three: Indiana 5 titles, 8 F4s, 37 appearances / KU 3 titles, 14 F4s, 42 appearances / Louisville 3 titles, 10 F4s, 39 appearances. I kept Indiana out of the top group due to a lot fewer F4s (rank tied for 8th) and gave Duke more credit for 7 more F4s even though they had one less title. KU ranks 5th all time in F4s and 4th in appearances.
For one reason or another, the next group doesn't quite match up with the 2nd group above. UConn 3 titles, 4 F4s, 31 appearances / Michigan St 2 titles, 8 F4s, 27 appearances.
That leaves 1 spot for the top 10. I have a hard time putting Syracuse in there. 1 title, 5 F4s, 36 appearances.
Here's their competitors: Ohio St. 1 title, 10 F4s, 25 appearances / Cincinnati 2 titles, 6 F4s, 27 appearances / Okie St 2 titles, 6 F4s, 25 appearances / I didn't expect this one, Arkansas 1 titles, 6 F4s, 29 appearances. I think an argument can be made for all of these. No doubt, Syracuse has shown more consistency over time, but done less with it.
What do you guys think about that last spot?

I think one could make an argument that Ohio St is on the rise and 10 F4s to Syracuse's 5 is significant.Livin the dream

Originally posted by wufan View PostWhile all time is important, when you are talking about the elite programs, sustainability and consistency is just as important as number of titles IMO. As such, I would give extra credit to programs with recent success. Also, I don't feel the need to round out the top 10 when it comes to elite status. There is a natural cut off at # 9.Originally posted by pinstripers View Post1. Kentucky
2. (tied) KU, UNC, Dook, UCLA
6. Indiana
