Cle is Cle. You take a lot of good with some bad. He is a scorer and when a coach deals with him, he won't tell him to quit shooting nor will he mess with his confidence. Coach may mention during film time, the one or two times per game that he takes a shot extremely early in the clock that he'll have again later. Coach may also encourage him to look to fake and drive more and continue to post up occasionally (these types of basketball moves can also end up with Cle at the foul line where he is very good). But eventually he'll find his stroke and be the dynamic scorer that we know he can be.

I believe everyone's expectations are too high. All you have to do is look at the cumulative stats. He is a 30% three point
shooter, a six rebound guy, a one assist guy and a decent free throw shooter. Like many players he is capable of getting
hot and have a really good scoring game. We have a well balanced team and no player needs to think they have to put the team
on his shoulders. He is an above average player not a super star.

I believe Cleanthony to be a streak shooter. We just haven't seen a sustained streak to this point. Maybe self-imposed pressure. I do think he's playing better all around than last year. He certainly demands attention from the opposition and that opens up things for his teammates. I also don't think eleven shots per game is hunting for your offense. I see no selfishness in what he's done this year. Questionable judgement sometimes, but not selfish.Where oh where is our T. Boone Pickens.

While I like seeing him attack the rim, I think he still has more confidence in his shot. What I really like from him is that he is our best post scorer on the low block and a great transition player, and that is where I'd like to see him. Unfortunately, we don't get to post him up very often because he's always playing with another big that is already in the lane. In those situations, it just gets too crowded for post scoring. It would be interesting to see some lineups with Early at the 5 and Wiggins or Green at the 4, even though it would be far from our best defensive lineup.
Early's shot is streaky. Rarely does he make or miss a single shot in a row. He's been very good at the end of games going back to last year, and I think the main reason is that he has sometimes pauses to think instead of just going into his motion. At the end of games, in shoot or die situations he doesn't have time to think himself into a miss. When he gets hot he often does the same think: quick. fluid releases without pausing. But he needs to always look for other options, because his first and second tendencies are to shoot. Which is good at the end of games, not so good when posting up or taking it to the hole is a better option (or passing it away when it is early in the shot clock). The hard part is knowing whether to take the shot before getting the ball.

Someone yesterday or today mentioned Cleanthony needing to go to the rim more and shoot fewer threes. I do not disagree, but though I'd like to compare this season's stats with last season's, and then also with the post-season stats last year that grabbed everybody's attention:
This Yr Last Yr Post-Season
FG% 43.2 45.5 43.2
3-Pt % 28.8 31.7 33.3
FT % 78.5 79.1 77.2
Reb 6.0 5.4 6.5
Points 14.2 13.9 12.0
Min 27.0 25.0 25.8
Increasing his 3-pt percentage to the post-season rate would add 2 three-pointers to his total, 6 points bring his ppg to 14.8.
Soesn't look like it could be much more consistent. It is going to be tough for any Shocker to average more than 15 or so a game because of the multitude of Shockers than can and will score a bunch from time to time and several on any given night. 3G's system is not designed for a one- or two-star statistic board.
Cle is shooting 53% from inside the arc. He is more than capble of raising that to near 60 and raising the 28% to 35%.
Last year, he was one piece of a team that performed at a very high level in the tourney and got lots of recognition. It just so happened that he was the biggest returning piece from that team, and therefore most deserving of off-season hype. But yes, he's the same player. The same uber-talented inconsistent player.
If he would simply choose to pass on about 2-3 three-pointers a game, and instead use those touches to drive to the rim, we'd see much more efficient and consistent performance, which I think is what most people are also saying in this thread. Shoot less 3's, drive to the rim more!!!"The more difficult the victory, the greater the happiness in winning."

Fortunately, we haven't had to depend on him as the #OneTrickPonyTeamThatCan'tWinTwoInARowInTheDanceAn dWhoShallRemainNameless bunch has to. Hopefully soon he will let the game come to him more in the flow, he will drive the lane some more, and will go off for 25+ on an opponent or two or several. Rather nice having plenty of buckshot in the ammo belt instead of just a single slug.Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind. ~Dr. Seuss
