It doesn't get more separated than it is this year. This is what happens when the league (1) Enters the league schedule with only 2 good teams and (2) Those two teams run away with the league while the rest of the league beats up on each other.

Once into the conference schedule, the RPI is in a bubble. It can be passed around among the teams. It can be blown around a little bit by the performance of non-conference opponents. But there isn't anything anyone can do to inject better RPI numbers into it. If the Top 2 teams run away with the league, they aren't handing out good RPI wins to the rest of the league, so the bottom of the league is going to continue to have crappy RPIs.
That's kind of true... When ISUb loses to SIU, SIU benefits and ISUb drops in the RPI and we get the benefit from SIU and the drop from ISUb so it technically doesn't matter... but if second place takes care of business they might be a top 50 team, and then dropping a game to a bottom dweller drops them from the top 50 giving pundits a reason to reject the shox.

Didn't the MVC enter the conference season with six top 100 RPI teams ... WSU, ISUb, Illinois State, UNI, Drake, and Missouri State? Yet again the abysmal teams got it going in the conference and have dropped us down to just two top 100 teams. And ISUb's loss to SIU probably keeps them out of the top 50. Just awful.
Almost right, according to stat sheet, there were 5 teams in the top 100 on January 5 (Illinois state) was not one of them. However, at that time all of them were between 75-100. Barely hanging on.
You miss 100% of the shots you don't take....

.....but, statistically speaking, you miss 99% of the shots you do take.

If WSU wins by 1 point over crappy Loyola = wtf? You gotta beat teams like that by more if you wanna be considered elite. WSU = 4 seed.
You guys have lost your minds. Some national talking heads say stupid things. Fine, call them out for their stupidity. However, making counter points that are equally as stupid doesn't do anything but make you look dumb too.

Loyola is not in the same ballpark as Texas Tech.

Ok, would Missouri Stare make you feel any better?

We know Jamar. Texas Tech has the "numbers" on their side because they play in the awesome Big 12 and they hung with Kansas.

          They are, in short, awesome.

          • Not trying to stir you up, Fever, but Pomeroy has TT at 67 and Loyola at 223... so Jamar may have a point. Keep in mind that I agree with your general premise.

First off, Loyola is clearly a bad example, and agree that it is just as dumb as arguing that Tech is great. Sort of.

What if they had to play Home and Home? I'd give Loyola the edge at home. Tech is 2-7 on the road.

A lot of these teams have their serious flaws hidden by the fact that they are picking up lots of quality losses on the road instead of just losses on the road. This is perhaps the single biggest benefit BCS conferences have....they all sit at home and rack up the buy game wins in December.

Road games are universally difficult to win in college basketball, and not nearly enough credit/discredit is given based on that fact.

If I was a Syracuse player I would refuse to come out of the locker room dressed like that.
