I still wouldn't be worried. The only thing Texas can offer is semi truck fulls of neatly stacked unmarked bills. It's a football school. They cannot offer a fanbase that's at all excited about basketball, nor can they offer the throne of the athletic department and the keys to the City of Austin. At this point, HCGM leaves only for a blue blood--wait, he's already turned one of them down. Let me be more specific: a blue blood in North Carolina.

Have you ever been to a basketball game in Austin?

All I am saying is that among all the chatter about Mack Brown here in FB country, was that the new AD was looking for some changes and a return to supremacy in ALL revenue producing sports. That includes Mens Basketball. They were even worried about Les Miles possibly leaving due to the criteria the new AD laid out.

Last year they averaged 10,000+ during a very down year. Their arena will hold 16,000+ and his was filled most nights from 2001-2008 when they were finding themselves in the Sweet 16, Elite 8, and Final Four.

I am just a Texas fan this year.

Then why is the AD putting up with last place finishes in baseball?

How many of those 10000+ sold seats actually had butts in them? It's an honest questions as I don't follow Texas in the least.

The one game I went to last year had about 8K. I went to a game in 2004 with almost 16,000. Not Koch, but not QuietLink Center either.

                  • A year ago today, Texas hosted North Carolina. Yes, Texas might have been down, so enthusiasm might not have picked up. Still though, Texas was playing NORTH CAROLINA, who was ranked #23 at the time. Wanna know the attendance for that game in that 16,000 seat venue?

                    Attendance: 13134
                    Turnstile - 10,141

Again, I'm not worried. I find it very hard to believe that Gregg would go somewhere that blatantly did not care about basketball.

MSU didn't exactly set the world on fire in Kyle Weems final year IIRC.

                      • I'm worried GM may take the Texas football coaching job.

Fair enough. They also graduated Creekmore, Ricks, Leonard and Mallet the year before....and then were playing in one of the more solid recent MVC seasons. His last year was our 16-2 year...CU was 14-4 and everyone else was .500. I probably could make the point better if I were smarter, but all I really mean is that Gonzo might not have been that proven of a coach just yet.

                              • I would be shocked if HCGM left for Texas. It just doesn't seem like his kind of gig.
