Because new money and blue bloods have different views of the world.

New money views the world as theirs, that there is no ceiling, that through hard work, anything is possible. There is plenty of money to go around for all the hard work. The world is your oyster.

Blue bloods view the world as theirs, and theirs to protect. The pot of money is rightfully theirs, it was given to them by generations past, and they already feel cramped in the country club hierarchy of other blue bloods. They can't have new people coming in, because that's more competition for the pool of money, especially when the new guy is working twice the hours they are at building their power.

As much success as WSU will ever get, multiple national championships, we're still going to be the guys in blue jeans and a white undershirt at the country club. We may no longer be looking up the blue blood's noses, because they can't poopoo on us to our faces, but best believe when we walk away, they gossip about how our outfits are such a faux pas.

If future success is on the horizon, the most important thing for our fanbase is to never forget where we came from. When people joke about the 90's, when they joke about our conference, when they joke about how mid-major we are, the best response will be "You bet your ass. It's been a hell of a ride. Play angry." All with a smile. Wear it as a badge of honor. It's easy to be a fan of winners, but getting through adversity defines character, and Shocker fans have character for miles. Because of the bad times, we appreciate the good times, and we need to never forget them. Never fall into the elitist traps of other teams that find success.

Work hard, stay humble & play angry, Shockers.

*Disclaimer - I'm not defending being afraid of success, just talking about the difference between blue blood and new money, and that we can still be new money and have success and reload every year, and be a #1 seed. (The whole I'd rather be a 4 than 1 is just silly, I'll be a 1 seed any damn day of the week over a 4.)

        • For today:

Davidson (2-5) has Charlotte (6-1). Please do something Davidson. That's the Charlotte that has wins over K-State and Michigan this year. Pretty sure they won the Puerto Rico Tip-Off...Davidson has sucked, but a win over Charlotte would probably cover a multitude of sins.

          Will & Mary (4-3) has Richmond (6-2)
Alabama (3-3) has North Florida (5-4)
Evansville (5-2) has Murray State (2-5)
Tulsa (1-6) has Texas Southern (3-5)
ISUr (3-4) has Chicago St. (3-4)
          Swomo (6-1) has Cameron (non-D1)
          Bradley (5-2) has IUPUI (1-7)

          Top 10s
          #7 Louisville (6-1) has UMKC (1-5)
          #5 Ohio St. (6-0) has Maryland (5-2)
          #8 Wisconsin (8-0) has Virginia (7-1)
          #1 Michigan St. (7-0) has UNC (4-2)

          • @DJ06Shocker:, really appreciate you putting these together. If it's not too much trouble could you add home and away?

            Happy for them either way.

Great post. It's a much better argument than whether or not it's good to be #1. Of course we want to be #1, but it's about how you get there and not whether or not KU/Indiana/UCLA/Kentucky/UNC media/fans accept you.

Wiscy won that barn burner of a game, 48 - 38. Both teams either have very tough defenses or their offense stinks.
