Yes, the bias is always there. Your example is a case in point. Another bias is last year when Gonzaga was a Number 1 seed. Others didn't really believe that they deserved it. Some things don't change.

And further... WSU "proved" that gonzaga was over rated because they lost to us. It's not possible that WSU beat a legitimate number 1 team.

Independence, Missouri is the "Mecca" of the LDS church. Outside of Salt Lake, KC metro has the largest Mormon membership in the US (maybe the world). Not sure how that impacts the rest of Kansas, but I work with several Mormon's in McPherson, KS, so I'd say there is a reasonable religious base to build on.

Not "Mecca". Jackson county missouri (where KCMO is) was literally "Zion" for the Mormons. Until they were jailed in Liberty Mo and left for Utah.

Independence, MO hosts the world headquarters of the Community of Christ, which from 1872 to 2001 was known as the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (RLDS). It has about 250,000 members, about half of which are in the United States., and 2 temples. In fact, I walked by their headquarters in downtown Independence while staying there during the CBE Classic.

This relatively small denomination does share a common heritage with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (commonly called the Mormon Church) which has around 15 million members and 140 temples and is headquartered in Salt Lake City.
