Turgeon's MD team is hard to watch. Wow. Makes me smile things worked out the way they did. Things are just fine "at this level".
turgeon's wichita state teams were quite often hard to watch too, except for '06. yes, things have worked out for the better since then. c'est la vie on the definite plus side for wichita state.
Are you looking for 40 minutes of perfect basketball in November?
And are you saying you LIKE a 20-minute all-out effort. That's not going to get us where we want to go. And if we don't make hay with our out-of-conference schedule, where do you think we will get the "quality" wins we need? In the Valley? Seriously? Against most of our opponents (whether they are Valley teams or not), I would take a really good three-fourths of a game -- with others that just may not be enough. And if we have a really BAD first half and dig a deep enough hole, we won't be able to climb out of it. But I'm not telling anyone anything they don't already know. "40 minutes of perfect basketball in November" -- maybe not, but why can't we come close? I think we have most of the talent we need, but it's up to the guys to find the will and the way. Whatever they give me, I will still be a fan (I just may not be a smiling fan).
Games are never perfect. I look for a team that gives 40 minutes of top notch effort. I thought that against Tulsa, we played pretty well in the first half and definitely gave the effort. Tulsa played pretty well too in the first half. We kept up with our top notch defensive toughness and pressure and Tulsa buckled in the second half. They didn't have the same toughness for the whole game and we did. In the second half, we also hit more shots.
I was watching several "BCS" teams yesterday -- am I biased or do they seem to not be called on the ticky-tack fouls as much as some. I'm chalking this up to either I can't tell a foul anymore OR there is a vast difference in officiating crews. If it's the former, that's my problem. If it's the latter, ----.
It just depends on the crew IMO. Some of them are calling it tighter than others- there have still been plenty of games involving BCS teams where teams are shooting 40+ free throws.
Big name players continue to get some star treatment, of course, and those players are overrepresented on BCS teams....but it's always been that way.
