  • From ESPN:

Wichita State capitalized on the momentum. Darius Carter converted a three-point play to make it 56-45, and a turnover by the Tribe and run-out dunk by Chadrack Lufile forced William & Mary coach Tony Shaver to signal for a timeout -- one that wasn't granted for several seconds because the officiating crew couldn't hear him over the roar inside Koch Arena.

Yeah baby!! That's what I am talking about!

    • Based on Coleby's previous experience and Lufile's skill set last year I thought we were going to miss Carl most in terms of scoring and wouldn't lose too much on rebounding or defense. Through 3 games it's basically been the reverse.

                  • The big men Have to get more aggressive on the boards and in attacking the rim on offense. I am sure they will get better but we have some big games coming up next week and in December.

                    • The W&M Tribe played solid Princeton Offense and was scoring inside and out the 1st half. Getting into any productive flow for us during that duration was like pulling hens teeth. However, the Shocks made adjustments. Fred "VanZag Sharpshooter" VanVleet led us like a rock star out of this funk with 18 smackers. Wiggy gave us a shot in the arm on offense while Cotton made some some anticipated steals and finishes to spark our D. Baker did lots of positives and we won an ugly one by 17 points. I'm glad W&M was missing throws and had some foul trouble of their own. I love College Basketball and our beloved Shocks were reminded that many teams we will play are playing their Super Bowl. Thus we shant drop our guard and we must adapt to these new unfortunate rules that pulverize the flow of the game at times as we learn to rise above it.

One thing I loved about Rags and Armstud as point guards was their ability to penetrate, dish, and drain the 3's. Fred is the real deal and did all of that tonight and is only a Soph. Su-weetness I say!!!!!!!

Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.

                      • Coach said the blame was his. He needed to prepare the team better for this type of offense. That being said, there were times on offense our guys JUST LOOKED LOST. We are not used to seeing that. We are used to a well-oiled machine out there. Hope this doesn't happen often. I'm too old and won't last the entire season if it does.

                        • I just want to note that I at one level I hate playing teams that run stuff like the Princeton offense and nothing but zone defense because you get games like this where it takes a while to adjust to the style the other team is playing while they are used to playing teams that do what you do. However, on the whole, it is probably good for the players to get exposure to this stuff and, as long as you win, will make you better in the long run.

                          • Tougher game than expected but still a 17 point win. Still lots to work on.
Props to Mr. Wiggins. Thought he lacked fire and toughness last year. This year is off to a much better start. Keep it up.
Ron needs to look for more shots. He scored 8 in the first 10 minutes when we were struggling and then didn't take another shot. Some of that is on him.
Fred solid. Fred the leader. Fred will get even better.
Cle is taking it to the rack, showing he can handle the ball. Next step, put more of em in the hole.
Darius, Darius, Darius. I hope you never feel the wrath of Gregg again like you did tonight. I bet you got the message. It's okay, you're not the first.
Many a good team lets solid opponents hang around for a half. The really good ones use all 40 minutes to stretch the margin of victory. The pretenders let em hang around. I think we're a really good team that took care of business over 40 minutes.
Maybe that comfortable victory comes Saturday.
Where oh where is our T. Boone Pickens.

Actually I think Marshall's main takeaway is that he overloaded the guys with new stuff to deal with the Princeton offense and we probably would have been better off just running our usual defensive stuff.

I wouldn't be too worried about the offense yet since this was the first zone team this group has seen this year and we got better as the game went on.

                              • No worries here, with Freddy ballgame running the point, this team is poised for a big time year. Coach will get the bigs dialed in, the talent is there, just need some more games under their belt. Our overall depth and talent will allow this maturation to develop sooner than later.
