Guessing he was the last guy onthe depth chart and the game wasnt technically put away until late. I wouldn't make anything of it. I didn't really know who PJ Couisnard was until I saw him flying all over the floor at the 2005 Valley tournament.

I would surmise that we have 2-3 if front of him at each position, and we wanted to play our best to win the game. Early, and Carter at the 4. Cotton, Wessel, and Wiggins at the 3. Thursday will be a game to build depth again.

Depth could definitely be a factor as others have mentioned. Also, his knee could still be bugging him.

        • Shockers defense just received a shout out during the S. Carolina vs Baylor game. The announcers were discussing the hand check rules and stated "If you want a great example of playing defense (not fouling) just ask/watch Wichita State" (paraphrasing). That's what I'm talkin' about!

          • my obsrvations from the game.

Carter looked out of rthym most of the game
Wessel play okay.. his defense was good at times but when he was out there i got the sense the team wasnt the same.
coleby had a few nice shots and a bunch of head scratchers.
Lufile i thought played pretty well, especially considering his play last year.
Fred... what can you say, he played like a man among boys.
baker played good defense, not so good offense
not sure if it was just me...but the free throw shooting was bad

the referees were AWFUL. Terrible calls on both ends of the court and on both teams. Phantom calls all night.

Overall I had a great time and the atmosphere was awesome!

that alley oop pass from van vleet to coleby (third highlight down) was a thing of beauty.

              • It's a 17 point win that gave Gregg a lot of coaching points to emphasize.

Some complain of too many threes. I'm going to complain of too many 6-8 foot baby hooks. Take the ball to the basket big guys.
In that same line of thought, the wrong guys were shooting in the first half. Not that everyone shouldn't feel free to take open shots, but Fred, Ron and Cle should take the lions share.
Defense is really good. Watching games all afternoon and we have made a better adjustment to the calls than most.
I loved EO to death but Kadeems hands are so much better.
Still waiting for Darius to bring the A game. Honestly, Hannah, Ragland and Early experienced difficulties early in their first seasons. They worked out pretty well.
The guys are 3 for 3 on post game interviews. Good job this morning Kadeem.
Where oh where is our T. Boone Pickens.

Lufile's confidence is growing with each game. He looked good the first half while Kadoosh struggled. Then Lufile sort of got lost in the mix when Kadunk started throwing it down.

There's something special about a Tekele dunk. It's not the smoothest or the most likely to break a backboard. I don't know what it is but it's a thing of beauty.

Wessel must not be a 1am in the morning player.

VanVleet doesn't give a rats arse what time it is. Give him the ball. That dude can PLAY!
If Fred goes down, the Shockers will be in deep do-do. Very deep do-do.

Hard to argue that point. However, that doesn't happen in an empty gym. The opponent understands that's the case also, so guess who will be the focus of their defensive game plan.

                      • I'm a little concerned about our front court. I only needed to see one more half-hook, half-foot short, line-drive hook shot for me to fly off the deep end. Either those shots need to be worked on or our guys need to kick it back out. Very ugly.

I thought Baker was too passive. We need him and FVV big time for our scoring.

It's early. We have some things to work on. We can be very good. I dunno if I can justify us as being the 16th-best team in the country right now.

                        ... No really, deuces.

                        • Thought it was a tale of two halves. The 1st half I thought oh no, then it was like a different team the second half. Nice win.
I have come here to chew bubblegum and kickass ... and I'm all out of bubblegum.

Agreed. However, we have some time for the team to gel and for the newcomers to get over their jitters of playing in front of 10K fans and meeting high expectations (personally and from us fans). We better start playing like the 16th best team in the nation because come Sprint Center time, it might be loser/consolation bracket time.

                              • Coach commented on the baby hooks from Carter. He is not concerned two games into his Shocker career. Said the doubters will soon be believers.

Personally, I like to see as many of our guys as possible taking shots as long as it is in the flow of the offense. Baker, Van Vleet, and Cotton doing that last March got us into April.
