Was always taught to bump cutters through the lane.

As opposed to what would be NORMAL? What seemed to be the most often called foul in your scrimmage? Your thoughts on some of the others predictions about these rule changes and the Shocks.

I am not buying it. First, this isn't the only time there has been an emphasis to bring basketball back to fundamentals (ball handling, hand checking, etc. have all been points of emphasis and btw there has always been rules for this). Second, when thousands of fans, players, and coaches start moaning and groaning over excess calls crews will find a way to not call more fouls than usual. Finally, during these scrimmages the coaches probably ask for a tight whistle from the refs hoping to teach their players what the new rules are. As always, refs will find the middle ground between how the teams are playing - and make calls in a way as to not provide an advantage for either team. We will probably see a shift from fouls into the paint to fouls on the perimeter, but not an overall increase after the first few games.

That is a foul - every time.

Above all, make the right call.

@ShockRef: Is there an adde emphasis on palming the ball this year? I noticed late last year a bunch more of these calls, an at a scrimmage I watched there were 5 or 6.

Wasn't that an area of emphasis last year?

If defender establishes position in the path of the cutter before the cutter comes through then what?

Or should he just curtsy and let him by?

How will Evansville Defend? They are in real trouble with the new rules!

If the defender establishes a legal guarding position, the onus is on the offensive player to avoid the contact.

However, most 'bumping the cutter' involves the defensive player disrupting the continuous motion of the offensive player while moving through the lane. When the contact affects the offensive players rhythm, speed, balance or quickness, it is a foul.

                    Every time.

                    That is all.

                      DSB,
There has been an emphasis to call palming violations for a couple of years. It will a point of emphasis again this year.

Then it's a good thing WSU has a lot of depth.

wow, so it sounds like all contact is now fouls. This should be interesting. Hope the refs are rready to hear about it.

Is the hand checking only for out front? Or is it also in the post? There is hand checking all the time in the post.

Based on WDU+ Opponent rate last year, 1403 fouls in 7800 minutes, the "expected number of fouls in 150 minutes would be 26.98, so your 57 is about double the expected number.

Hopefully we are practicing free throws.

College Basketball has been a great sport to watch. I hope the new "emphasis" doesn't ruin it by slowing the game down and turning offense in to what Drake's offense was a few years ago. I hated the "draw a foul" offense. It's pretty much what SMS ran last year against us at STL.
