Wichita State Set for Shocker Madness

I got my first season ticket a dozen years ago and renew every year and I have attended EVERY Shocker Madness since that time. I upgraded my seats last year and think it is some of the best money I have ever spent. I am one of what Sub refers to as the "old shits" on this board but I have always maintained that what we put forth for Shocker Madness is less than stellar. I always cringe when I hear that one or more recruits will attend because I don't think it puts us in the best light, especially when these recruits are being pursued by larger universities. I always read what Sub has to say with interest and I usually agree with him -- I just don't like being "lumped in" with a group. We are all fans and all entitled to our own beliefs. I think Sub may have gotten angry because he didn't feel like people were understanding his point of view. I happen to agree that we don't usually put forth our best foot when it comes to Shocker Madness -- it could be so, so much better. Instead of jumping on a poster for an opposite point of view maybe we should make suggestions to whomever is in charge of putting on an event like Shocker Madness and work to getting it better next year. I personally thought Doc had some really good ideas. I've always maintained that we needed to get the students more involved -- that's how the BCS schools pack their arenas for this type of event.

For the record, my previous post directed at Sub wasn't that I disagreed with his "cringe" remark, just that if you're going to criticize the coach's methods (nothing inherently wrong with that), don't turn around and say you didn't.

You're right, it's the old shits on the board who can't follow with what's actually being discussed and try to pull things in the only direction that their feeble minds can comprehend.

I've been spending a lot less time on this board and mostly because of the jackassery that is so plentiful. I think it's time to go hang with Cold. The rest of you can **** off. I'm out.

Sub, you need to learn to take criticism as much as you question or criticize others. When you make a comment and it comes out wrong, admit it and move on. Don't take it out on the rest of the board.

That was kinda fun and mildly entertaining. But I'm probably the only one on this board that likes a little "action" before it gets curbed to the corner.

I agree with Sub's premise. Shocker Madness is a whimper for recruits and is promoted poorly as hell. It's a shame nothing more can come after a Final Four. Oh well.

I think Sub will be back but as he said, there are other options out there.

I don't think that anything that was said is inappropriate on this issue. I don't understand the vitriol on this subject. Somewhere else SB said that it has been building for awhile and that doesn't like Kai. Maybe he knows him personally but I do not understand this. Life is too short to get upset over this or any other social board. God and family are all that is really important. Take this from a wise old fart. I'm not sure what qualifies as an old fart. After all I'm not a senior but I'm getting closer everyday.

I'm still amazed at the lack of promotion for this event. I think I heard a commercial about some pumpkin thing going on at WSU this weekend or next. I've heard more about pumpkins at WSU than about Shocker Madness, coming off a Final Four, featuring ESPNU.

I'm preparing myself for disappointment.

So I think of it like compounding interest. If you are able to get a lot of current students there, they will tend to come back even after they have graduated. After several years of successful student attended events, the young alumni will want to continue to go back to experience whatever was awesome enough to get them there as a student. I'd like to hope it sort of becomes self sustaining once you build up the base.

But to do that it has to appeal to the students in a big way.

I have seen it promoted on twitter and facebook as well.
