  • MVC ESPN Schedule Released

  • #2
If I counted correctly, that's 11 scheduled WSU games and possibly another via wildcard on March 1st, out of 28 total MVC contests (including the wildcards). That's a very significant percentage and an obvious benefit of the Final Four run.

And all but like 1 or 2 of the actual non-internet games, (ESPN/2/U) for the conference season has WSU included.

      Not surprising.
      Deuces Valley.
      ... No really, deuces.

                  UNI 5
                  Illinois State 1

                  Indiana State 6
                  Missouri State 8

                  For a total of:

                  Wichita State 14
                  Missouri State 10
                  UNI 9
                  Indiana State 8
                  Bradley 7
                  Evansville 6
                  Loyola 6
                  Southern Illinois 4
                  Illinois State 4
                  Drake 3
The sorted order by total number of TV games could almost be the pre-season MVC rankings, with maybe the Bears and Sycamores switched. WSU, rightly, will get far more national exposure via ESPN games. I think the MVC did fairly well with their distribution of games.

Anyone else notice that they are televising more Wichita State road games than home? Dissapointing because I would love to showcase more of our home games. By my count we have 2 conference home games and 4 conference road games televised by ESPN networks.

Part of the reason for the espn3 games is that they pick up the cox feed sometimes.

Showing too many home games would be too much of a boost for us in recruiting exposure and they can't have that.

Don't forget that the last home game will be televised in some form on ESPN. Yeah, so that's not official yet as the Valley will announce its wild card weekend later, but I'm pretty sure ESPN will want a game showing WSU wrapping up a perfect 18-0 conference record.

                          How's that for lofty expectations?

Bad news is we'll be playing MSU, who could conceivably be so bad they're fighting to stay our of Thursday. Who else is playing that weekend? UNI and ISUb more specifically. Perhaps BU. And I admit, if MSU steps up they could be fighting for 3rd or 4th, but that may be asking a lot from Lusk.

Not even considering the raucous Koch atmosphere, us coming off the Final Four, and being a Top 25 team, you'd think ESPN would want us even more with an actual normal TV angle starting this year.
