What made you think I was offering an opinion on the health care law? I didn't say anything about whether it was good or bad. I just tried to recite the facts of current health care law as I understand them and ask what that meant for the situation with Bowles. I am not sure why trying to understand what WSU and Bowles options are would cause you such angst.

I would really hope that DJ stays at WSU and gets a degree. I hope he stays with the team, and I hope that he can be a lightning rod of inspiration to these players and future ones. At Tennessee, a few years ago, a player Inky Johnson hit a player down the sideline and collapsed. It was one of those plays you could watch 1,000 times and never figure out why he got hurt. He tore a bunch of nerves in his left side and was paralyzed from the left side, and lost a lot of funtions in that side. He fought back and learned to walk, use his other hand for everything, and he stayed with the team as an assistant. He stayed with the team for a very long time after his degree was earned.

If DJ loves basketball as much as I think he does, maybe this is his chance to start a career in coaching. I'm sure Coach would allow him to help out around the team, he's already made friends, and it hit these guys hard from what I've read. This doesn't mean that DJ's basketball career is over, it just means that he might have to take a different trajectory in his basketball career. Maybe he could be like Carl and prove that he can play eventually, but right now we should all be thankful DJ is alive, has preventative medical equipment installed to make sure he will stay alive if it were to happen again. DJ is and always will be a Shocker. Shockers for life.

Hopefully, we can get back on topic

Though they will not let him play, the school has announced that they will honor all four years of Bowles’ scholarship. So far the freshman has not declared whether or not he will stay with the school or attempt to transfer to a school that will let him play. From Wichita State’s perspective, their reaction is completely understandable. In their situation, they have reacted about as well as any school possibly could. Taking a chance on a young man’s life for the sake of a basketball team would not have been received positively by anyone.

I think the fact that he doesn't want to leave when he could potentially play somewhere else speaks more to the close nature of the team than to anything else.

Somewhat off topic since it is not basketball or Shocker related. But

Star SM West receiver Andre Maloney suffers stroke during game
The young scored a touchdown and after returning the bench became disoriented. Was immediately taken to the hospital. He died in the hospital today. Was committed to play football at KU next year.

The reports of his death were incorrect. He's in a vegetative state.

Contrary to reports, Andre Maloney has not passed away, but he is in a vegetative state.
And now I see that he's not expected to recover so his family is going to discontinue treatment.

                        Sad.

I'm not sure if this got brought up anywhere but it's an interesting, somewhat relevant incident. http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/10092943/high-point-player-defibrillator-not-resume-career

Allan Chaney collapsed during a practice while he was at Virginia Tech and had to have an internal defibrillator implanted. Virginia Tech wouldn't clear him so he transferred to High Point, a school that would clear him. On November 24th, he collapsed during a game. He ended up being OK but he has chosen to end his basketball career after the recent scare.

I am glad the people at WSU that make these type of decisions have made what to me is the correct call in not allowing DJ to resume his athletic endeavors at WSU and has asked him to stay to get his degree and still be a part of the program. Makes me proud to be a Shocker.
