Well I will make the case, weak as it may be: He carried his fair share of the balls up last year and was getting some PG duty as a freshman when we were waiting for Ragland to develop 2 years ago. So I think he's the most experienced backup PG we have at this point. Plus he's the premier defensive match up for any opponent that has a stud PG that gets a lot of fast break buckets, though we don't see much of that in the Valley.

All of this is arguable that Ron Baker has better handles, but we don't really know that to be the case when he's at the PG position because we haven't had a chance to observe it yet.

Also, I think Tekele might be the next President of the United States.

So take it with a grain of salt.

I am surprised he hasn't already been mailed the 2013-2014 MVC Defensive POY trophy.

I remember Tekele's role the last two years quite differently than you. It could be that my mind is slipping.

No, if anybody's memory is jacked up, it's mine.

Hmmm. It is the offseason. I think I'll go over to the Illinois State board to see how Teddy Hawkins is doing in his calculus classes.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.

Good point, Aargh. I also expect Baker to be the #2 option at PG unless Bowles makes a miraculous recovery, and I think he'll handle it just fine. He's a good enough athlete, and his basketball IQ and court savvy are so high that WSU won't skip a beat with him in that role, despite his having played primarily a swingman role in the past. And, of course, as you note, it's likely to enhance his future prospects as well, especially considering what he's already shown as a catch-and-shoot guy. Assuming he stays healthy, he's NBAker someday -- mark it down. (That's for you, ShockRef.)

So we have WSU's "deficient duo" at PG: Baker the backup, with less experience at the position than some, and Fred VV starting, who isn't as quick or athletic as some -- man, I wish the Shocks could be that deficient at every position every year.

actually, van vleet is quicker and more athletic than most. rewind wsu-osu

sidenote: that osu team was incredibly talented. more so than i realized at the time.

I could see Cotton running the point like a fullback. Get to the top of the key, raise his forearm while keeping his dribble, and plowing through the lane like he's parting the red sea. That would give UNI something to flop about.

You mean something like this? You know what's about to happen with that right arm, right?
