I said the EXACT same thing the INSTANT those idiotic words slipped off his lips.

      • Friends I don't think it was a supernatural event that led Dana to call a timeout when we were up by more than a dozen and then we ended up losing shortly afterwards by 2. Marshall got schooled, plain and simple. He will have lots of time to learn over the years.

Gregg also commented that he liked it that the CU fans were really, really happy to beat us. "I like it that they are so happy to beat us.....today. I like that."

HCGM is like Rocky in Rocky III. He's kinda standing there, hitting himself on the chin, taking everyone's best shot....."You ain't so bad....you ain't bad!"

PS My wife says Lance is great.
I caught that too--"I'm going to win here -- I'm reasonably confident about that."

It made the sting of the loss diminish for a second anyway...

          • His comment was less confidence and more factual, imho. At least that's how it sounded to me.

I can't disagree with this. Whenever a lead evaporates this way there are usually some adjustments made that the other team can't handle. Our early success was due to their missing shots and not being able to set up their press. Once they started penetrating and making shots, we had to face the press, which has been a struggle for us all year.

I agree, however I think Dana's got a much more deep and talented squad--albeit young and inexperienced to a degree. I think the mistakes at the end had less to do with coaching. I wish the refs had seen coach trying to call a timeout there toward the end... who know's what would've happened. It's all for not though unfortunately.

Cold, that's just silly -- what else is new? -- and further evidence of why Marshall and Altman are making a ton of money coaching and you aren't. You can't make major "adjustments" in a time out that turn a game around; there isn't enough time for that. You can tell your guys to turn up the pressure on a team whose ball handling is a little suspect, whose best ball handler is out, and whose fill-in is playing more minutes than would be ideal, and hope for the best, and that your superior depth and athleticism will finally wear down the other guys. But if that's brilliant coaching, many of us could do the same.

Oh, yeah, and you tell your guys to start hitting virtually all of their threes. More brilliant coaching: "Come on, guys, hit 7 of 8 this half, and we'll come back." Riiiighhhht.

I could probably make money betting that those same guys wouldn't hit 7 of 8 threes in an empty gym. But this time they did, and in that case, the Shocks and I pay off. As the bumper stickers say, "Stuff happens" -- and tonight it did.

If you could ask Dana Altman right now, though -- and somehow extract an honest answer from him -- who he does NOT want to run into in St. Louis, I'm pretty sure the answer would be Drake and WSU, especially if Braeuer can play by then. If the Shocks meet Creighton again and Matt is able to go, I'm liking WSU's chances for the "upset" quite a bit.

                    • Well, what a heart-breaker. Creighton was unconscience on 3 pointers the 2nd half, but always have good shooters.. PJ was everywhere at times, blocking shots, D-ing up, scoring. Gal had a very solid game. Lance Harris has more then earned his playing time. I'm quite comfortable when he is in the game. His minutes will continue to increase if he plays solid like that.

At the end, Marshall was calling out for a time-out that would have came in very handy. If we keep playing hard and executing like tonight, we will get some nice wins from here.

The refs tonight? Nothing positive to report.  We will rise above any and all obstacles as our Program moves forward. We will have the talent to make our own breaks and determine our own destiny. I like the fight in this team and I hope it carries over to next year.

Creighton knew they were in a war tonight. They squeaked this one out by the hair of their chinny chin chin after trailing much of the game. They were quite jubilant to beat our struggling team and had quite a comeback. There will come a day that we will be, more talented, deeper and better. Much, much, better! We will then look forward to playing them again, sooner than later.

                      • Just got done watching the game on the dvr..

                        Wow.

I'll be happy to eat my words that I thought this was gonna be a 20 point blowout.

Gal played an awesome game. The timing of his turnovers at the end was really, really unfortunate. Take away those, and he is a god, and we likely win the game, or at least are in better position to do it.

This was 2006 written all over again. We built a big lead then and lost it late on the Tolliver buzzer-beater.

Pretty amazing game though. I'm wondering if we'll ever win in Omaha again. 2 of the last 3 games there we had HUGE first and second half leads and end up blowing em late. It's really frustrating. But this game definitely gives me hope that better days are ahead.

Great game boys. Don't hang your heads on this one. We play spoilermaker now and we almost did it tonight. We'll get our chance again, soon enough.

P.S. WP wow. He had a few key shots that were just totally awesome.. cuz well.. he hit 'em. But wow the 5 TO's and the questionable forced shots were painful to watch. He raised my blood pressure a few millobars... :-x

Great game by everyone: Durley= beast, Cooz= a freakin' stud.. how bout them blocks, Harris= where's this kid been the last 2 years???, etc..

I would just like to compliment you fever. this is your best post ever. Its honest. Its truthful and objective. Its a good representation of what the game was. I cant object with anything you said with the exception of Durley. Durley did indeed play much better tonight on d but was lazy to many times also and slow to switch back to his man and it burned us. I exect that out of him with his youth. I wish I could expect the kind of d he played tonight on a more regular basis. The matchup was favorable for him though as the creighton big men arent particularly athletic or quick and that worked to Durleys favor most of the game. However Watts was able to use his head and take advantage of Durley down the stretch when it really hurt us and they really needed it. I really liked pjs game tonight for the first 30 mins. he did everything the team needs him to do but he did it withing the scheme of the game and let it come to him. The last 10 mins though he was absent altogether though and that killed us when we really needed a go to senior to get us a basket and stop the momentum that they had. Well I guess he did jack up an airball three pointer that was unguarded. i suspect he was out of gas by that point. But when the time comes like it did tonight and we need somebody to make a play of any kind hes got to be the guy. It doesnt matter if its a three ball or him driving the lane or maybe taking it to the hole and making that extra pass after hes drawn defenders. Hes the senior and hes the one with the most ability to create something of some sort when we need it. However much props go to pj for his free throws the last 2-3 games as well as staying out of foul trouble. Thes little things may not seem like much but its the difference between us getting down by 20 in the first half and being ahead with 5 to go and being in the bonus. i thought we should have attacked the basket more late in teh game to get to the foul line and take advantage of that position. They did a good job on the ball screens though and kept gal from doing to much damage and by teh time we made an adjustment to send gal off the back half of the screens it was to late. I liked the way we played tonight as a team though. We really looked better on offense. Guys were moving much quicker without the ball and that helped us put ourselfes ina postion to get a good basket be it from theat extra pass or beating the defense. We havent seen enough of that sort of effort on offense this year. It made a huge difference if you ask me. I think its the first game in a while when we actually went out and played our game and made the opponent adjust to us rather than the other way around. It was Creighton though and we always get up to play them. I wish the guys brought that kind of effort to every game. If they did we would be in the top 4 in the confrnce right now i think. I could go on and on with things i noticed but its freaking 5 am and time for me to crash so im going to leave it at this for now. Again fever nice post.

SF just like to say this is the best post i have ever seen you write. I never ever thought you would give Gal props, because he surely deserved it, he played one hell of a game, and lets just hope he can build on it. I think Gal is prolly the most improved player on our team this year. I know the team prolly dont believe in moral victory, but this game still gives us hope that we can make some noise when it goes time the MVC tourney in March.

                              • Did Fever really say much different than what he has been? It's worded differently but I think it's the same message. Gal is good. Gal played well. Now if we can just get Gal to stop making stupid mistakes at all the wrong times he'll get a lot less crap from fans.

Gal played a great game up to the two dumb decisions. That doesn't take away from the fact that he played well and is one reason we were where we were.
