That's the issue - we are talking about games that won't be on Fox Sports MW. There's no way they are going to carry all of the WSU (or any other school) games that won't be on ESPN or CBS etc.

In previous seasons K-state has had all of their non-conference games not nationally carried on ESPN shown on FSN Kansas City, so it seems at least possible given the status of the two programs currently.

But apparently Fox doesn't see the value in buying the rights to WSU to show on FSNKC. The only way we leave Cox is if one of the local stations, CBS/ABC/NBC/WB/The other that I forget decide to out bid Cox for the rights.

One option to view for those who do not have Cox is to use Apple TV to view iPhone or iPad stream from ESPN3 or any other source for streaming, on your TV.

Apple TV costs about $100 and is the size of a modem.

Great point. I didn't know that.

Maybe with Fox Sports 1 coming on board, there might be more options. And there are NBC and CBS cable sports channels which are available on Dish, Uverse, Direct and cable.

I believe those networks are looking for conferences and not simply teams.

I think the point that's being missed here is that the Valley is lacking in making efforts to get all of the Valley teams on TV. KU isn't on the major networks for every game, Carolina isn't on the major networks every game, even Duke, believe it or not, doesn't have every game televised nationally. Elgin needs to do a better job of getting the Valley on TV more than once a week when nobody is watching TV. Prime time games on at a minimum, a regional network is where it needs to start. If the Valley can show that they have talent (Loyola notwithstanding), then more higher profile games will get picked up nationally. The fact that nearly every WSU game CAN be seen, is a huge bonus. Do I need to go to a sports bar to watch it, yes, but at least I have that option.

We're on FSN I believe twice a week during conference play as a conference. I'm not sure what more can really be done by the MVC at this point outside of opening talks with some other network, but that will have to wait a few years I believe. The MVC has already scheduled games on Tuesday/Wednesday and Saturday/Sunday I believe to open up more possibilities of TV time.

The way the new KU deals work is that KU signed with Time Warner Cable to give them exclusive local rights to our Tier 3 content (6 basketball games, 1 football, Olympic sports and shoulder programming - coach's shows, documentaries and features, magazine style shows, etc) in exchange for them significantly increasing the amount of programing shown. Basically Metro Sports Channel is going to become a mini "KU Channel" on Time Warner Systems. Time Warner is then trying to reach agreements with other cable operators in the state to carry either the channel or the programming. Cox is the first deal that has been signed. We also signed a deal with ESPN to carry the aforementioned programs + more nationally on ESPN3. The worry for KU fans is exactly that above - the loss of over the air broadcasts mean that people like myself who are not TWC (or now Cox) subscribers may not be able to get the games. (I do have ESPN3 access so I hope to be fine).

Unless deals can be reached, KU signed away some viewability in Kansas for significantly more national exposure. We will see if it is worth it.

I've seen one of these units but only for audio...what is your opinion of them? Worth it or waste?

I love mine! I use it's audio function exclusively right now, but I plan on buying a second and hooking it up to the 110" TV in the basement. It is even 1080p capable. If you own other Apple products, they auto sync when you are streaming.

Get a Roku instead. The one I have was $58 at Walmart. You can get the $100 if you wanna. I also own an Apple TV, but it doesn't do Amazon Prime or more importantly 3rd party "channels". So if you ever drop your Netflix you can't just switch to Amazon Instant Video. There's another thread on here discussing the Roku.
