  • Wichita State hopes to score nationally with new multimedia partnership

Most important, know that Mike Kennedy’s job as Voice of the Shockers won’t change.

“Mike Kennedy is not going anywhere,” Wichita State athletic director Eric Sexton said.

Almost everything else about WSU’s media future is changing, although much will take place behind the scenes.

The shifts in the business model are underway as the athletic department adds Shocker Sports Properties to oversee television, radio and other multimedia contracts and sales. The move, sealed with a 10-year contract with CBS Collegiate Sports Properties to create Shocker Sports Properties, follows the trend of colleges partnering with specialized companies to make more money.

Since we all know HC3GM will keep us relevant on the national stage, this will end up being a big move forward. I might get that seat warmer after all!

I've been pretty impressed with most of Sexton and The Athletic Department's moves this off season. It's been very dynamic and just as exciting. I'm definitely ready for all the fun sports to kick back up and see where it takes us.

Now to add "Sexton and The Athletic Department" to my list of band names...

It is beyond me why Cox thinks he is good to have for their play by play broadcast.
You miss 100% of the shots you don't take....

.....but, statistically speaking, you miss 99% of the shots you do take.

                That's Cox for ya.

It's beyond me why we continue to side with Cox and leave half the fanbase alienated in watching them play. I cannot imagine somebody else not picking them up and making them available for EVERYBODY.

$$ is more important than having games available for the fanbase.

I am quite happy with Cox and I feel that it is fortunate that we get to watch all the games on television since I live over an hour away from Koch Arena.

Are the satellite networks clamoring to get Shocker games and they are getting Coxblocked, or is it that w/o Cox we wouldn't see nearly as many games?

Cox will be carrying six KU men's basketball games this upcoming season on Kansas 22, with a caveat for WIBW in Topeka. So some of those OOC games may not be on over the air stations as was done previously. So maybe it just isn't us.

Is carrying it for everyone even an option?

If ESPN, Fox etc aren't going to carry the games, what is a better option than Cox? Is Dish, Direct TV or Uverse any better?

I suppose you could argue something like fox sports midwest would have more value because it isnt a provider run channel like cox 22. Then you have games that are on all major tv providors and could be accessed in higher packages nationwide.

I was able to watch a majority of the games on Cox via ESPN3

The scoreboard is certainly nice. The rest is but a small step in the direction that many programs have already used.
It's a nice, no doubt, but how is the radio coverage for the state of Kansas? How is Shockervision which should be incredibly easy to fix.

Perhaps, but fortunately his daughter is involved in the marketing. A tradeoff for which I will not complain.
