I didn't really start following the Shocks until 1979 when I left the Army and ended up in Wichita. I took some courses and WSU and started following still young baseball team. Then there was the basketball team with the bookends, X, and Aubrey Sherrod(how many points would he have scored if he had played in the 3-point era?) X impressed me when he grabbed 7 rebounds in 7 minutes as a freshman. How many points and rebounds would he have had if not having to wait his turn behind two AA forwards?
Even after watching the bookends and others of that era and some really good Shockers since, X remains my favorite and I glad to see him get this honor.
X was one guy that could get seven rebounds in seven seconds, each time rebounding his own missed shot. One year it seemed that he had several sequences where he was shooting three times, rebounding two and making the last.
"I not sure that I've ever been around a more competitive player or young man than Fred VanVleet. I like to win more than 99.9% of the people in this world, but he may top me." -- Gregg Marshall 12/23/13 :peaceful:
--------------------------------------- Remember when Nancy Pelosi said about Obamacare: "We have to pass it, to find out what's in it".
A physician called into a radio show and said: "That's the definition of a stool sample."
