Marshall has a weakness?

    Off the top of my head, I can think of two of our go-to guys last year when the game was coming down the the final seconds:

    Armstead: Game winning jumper against VCU

    Early: Game winning 3 against Illinois State (which still makes me grin from ear to ear)

    Another time when it was simply a close game throughout the whole second half it seemed, we had way more than a go to guy. We had a TEAM:
    Gonzaga game: Baker, FVV, Early, Carl, and probably more. Our TEAM scored like 23 points in NINE CONSECUTIVE POSSESSIONS to make a little comback and hold the lead to knock off the (AP) Number 1 team in the nation.

    This is why I don't take this article very seriously. And yeah, you could make the argument when we might have needed a go to guy in one of our games that we lost, but I still believe this is mainly a team effort over anything.

      Point taken. Early averaged 4.4 fouls per 40 mintues played and played 61.2% of the available minutes in all conference and MVC tourney games. In the NCAA tournament games, he avergaed 3.5 per 40 minutes played and played 74.0% of the available minutes.

      Interestingly, Baker in the NCAA tournament games played 81% of the minutes and also averaged 3.5 fouls per 40.

        Shocker Leading Scorers by game

        Early - 13 games
        Hall - 7.5 games
        Armstead - 6.5 games (2.5 games came in post-season play)
        Williams - 5.5 games

        If you break leading scorers down by when they scored 20+:
        Early -6 games
        Armstead - 4 games
        Hall - 3 games
        I didn't say balanced scoring means you don't have one go to guy. I said it can often mean that, but with the Shockers there are a lot of players who can get their own shot. You took one part of my post out of context and missed my entire point.

          In general, I agree with your points. However, Cle can commit some incredibly dumb fouls that make my head spin.

              True, but that's why the give him five freebies. :)

              Kidding aside, I think what works against him most isn't the quantity of dumb fouls, it's how he goes all Jamar Howard on the refs too often. He needs to be more selective on his whining/bitching/attitude when it comes to tough calls.

                One thing I was impressed with Cle during the Louisville game was his rebounding positioning. He blocked out Louisville players and drew rebound fouls on 3 occasions in that game.

                Did I mention I can't wait for next season???
