  • Sedgwick County DA - "No charges being filed"

    Much ado about nothing.

    Terrific news.

I'm still incredibly disgusted by the decision of the Wichita police department to go to the press with this information in the first place.

Handled very poorly by WPD. Somebody's head ought to roll over this.

ESPN reported the investigation but I doubt they'll no report there are no charges being filed.

Negative press for the University and basketball team for absolutely no reason.

Actually, for ESPN to skip over it at this point may be just as well, AndShock. No one outside of Wichita remembers the story or cares about it -- well, maybe Matty P from Omaha, or wherever he's skulking around these days, but even he's probably still too orgasmic over getting into the new Big East to care. And the only thing a report of no charges will accomplish is to remind people that there WAS a previous report -- plus, any such news at this point is likely to be accompanied by a recap of what details were reported about the incident, which were worse than unsavory even though they didn't support criminal charges. Definitely not the kind of thing you'd want your Mom to hear about, shall we say. So I believe this is a sleeping dog best left to lie.

Agree 150% with everyone about the Wichita police department, though. Incompetent, irresponsible, and worthy of punishment. Think of it this way: who knows what WPD's motives were in releasing the trial balloon that they did, but if they wanted to be downright malicious about casting undeserved suspicion on four guys, an unnamed three of whom were never the subject of an investigation, what would they have done differently?

Boo, boo, and more booooooo, WPD. You owe some guys a major apology.

If you know anything about the WPD, they don't like people in a certain part of town. At least it seems that way.

I don't, like many of you, like the way the PD handled the release of the information on this. But let's not disparage them as I think on the whole they have an incredibly tough job to do and I, for one, am glad they are around. And NO I don't have any friends or relatives in law enforcement here or anywhere else. I just think that unless you have worked in the field, you really don't know what they have to deal with. Let's just pass this off as poor judgment on someone's part but don't get down on the whole department.

Agreed, 21 -- they do have a tough job, and I'm glad they're around. There's even at least one former Shocker basketball player, Carl Lemons, who's an officer with the Wichita PD.

But I'm not criticizing the whole department, just whoever made the absolutely boneheaded and indefensible decision to release info that placed a cloud of suspicion over four guys, three of whom -- and we still don't know which three -- were never investigated. PR should be the EASY part of police work. No high speed chases, no one potentially (or actually) shooting at you, no split-second decisions on whether to fire your own weapon. Yet that was the part that got so utterly mishandled in this case, and someone should be held accountable.

IIRC, Darrin Williams is also with the WPD.

What exactly are you saying? They don't like Andover?

Sure they do. Even eastborough has their own police. Not sure what that has to do with my question. What people does the WPD not like?
