Just got back from Vegas yesterday and got 80-1 odds on Shockers at Caesars. I discovered several oddities:

Like I said Caesars had WSU 80-1 while LVH had them at 60-1.

On KSU basketball LVH had them at 100-1 while Caesars had them 50-1.

How there could be such a disparity in odds from casino to casino was very surprising. And how anyone would give KSU better odds than WSU makes you wonder what underlying data these sportsbooks are utilizing.

I was giddy walking away with 80-1 odds for next season!!!

I don't know if I would take those odds for Creighton making the Sweet 16, in all honesty.

          Wichita State (70-1)
You can take a roll with the team that nearly took out Louisville in the Final Four and returns multiple starters and a lot of good depth. Fred Van Vleet should be able to slot in for Malcolm Armstead at the point, and guys like Evan Wessel (back from injury) and Tekele Cotton will help fill the scoring void left by Carl Hall. They still have Cleanthony Early and Ron Baker, and the league doesn’t have Creighton in it anymore, so the Shockers should be the preseason favorite in the Valley.
That is embarassingly bad logic by SI. I'm suppossed to believe that Creighton leaving the MVC benefits WSU's odds of winning the national championship? If a parallel universe existed where next season was played with Creighton still in the Valley, does anyone on this board think that the WSU without Creighton gets seeded significantly higher than the WSU with Creighton?

Don't you know WSU's only shot at the tournament is winning the conference? ;)

He could have been thinking that there's 2 to 3 extra wins for the shox, thus better seeding, etc.

It could just as easily be looked at as hurting WSU because there are fewer chances for quality wins, and quality wins are needed to get a good seed. Realistically, Creighton being in the MVC (or not) has little impact on WSU's chances of winning the national championship. It's like drinking 5 beers a night and then wondering if that 1/2 oz of mouthwash you accidentially swollowed is going to be hard on your liver... the beers are what mater, not the mouthwash. Like the mouthwash, Creighton's impact on WSU's chances are negligible. Not completely zero, but so small they can simply be ignored.

Unfortunately that is the way that some national pundits view the Valley. And the Valley only being a one bid conference for a few years in a row didn't help that image.

Looking bad, this conference really flushed away a golden opportunity with that string of one-bid years. The Valley was on a considerable upswing, started to get the respect of ESPN ... and then flushed it all away.

I wonder what the conference would have looked like if we could have averaged three bids a year rather than one over that stretch. Something tells me we wouldn't be paying ESPN to broadcast our games.

Maybe the Valley will now garner more respect. With WSU Final Four appearance and the Mountain West tourney bust, maybe the media will shift their focus on us and the Valley.

I doubt it. Our Final Four appearance should shift their focus on us, but not the Valley. The MWC got respect because it was a deep conference, which provides interesting games regularly. If WSU is the only credible team in the Valley, then they're covering us, not the Valley. It's a Gonzaga situation rather than MWC.
