Still can't see Fred making the NBA. Too slow and not enough of a freak athlete to play at 5'10". Super excited about his remaining 3 years at WSU though.

    Absolutely on all three sentences.

What about my prediction on Selection Sunday in 2006 that the MVC would get 6 teams into the Big Dance?

What about a couple years ago when almost everyone was criticizing me for holding out hope that WSU could still get an atlarge? I kept talking about all the bubble teams losing and a possible "perfect storm" brewing, yet I received a ton of comments to the effect of "forget it, not happening, give it up".

I'm not always on the "debbie downer" side. It just feels like that more recently because the board is overflowing with optimism given this crazy ride to the Final Four we just experienced.

Yes because God forbid we don't show any excitement or optimism after a Final Four run.

I think you need to focus more on your prediction skills than worrying about what anyone says here positive on a WSU board.

        ... No really, deuces.

Who's arguing that no excitement or optimism is allowed?

            Some more perspective:

Mark Gottfried (NC State coach): "We still won 24 games,'' Gottfried said. "You have to put it all in perspective. I wanted to do a lot more. I wanted to go farther, no question. But at the same time, when I took the job two years ago, if I had said [to the fans] you'll go to two straight NCAA tournaments, get to the Sweet 16, reach the ACC tournament semifinals in both years, and said who is taking that right now, raise your hands? There would have been a lot of hands up in the room.''

This where Marshall could have gone. Power conference. Near where he grew up (at least, closer than Kansas). Two-time NCAA tournament champions. And they say they'd be happy with 24 wins in a season, going to two straight NCAA tournaments, and making the Sweet 16. Yes, NCState wasn't exactly in that position two years ago when he took the job, but when you compare us to them, we are the team with higher expectations and better results.

This is the same NCState team ranked #6 in the preseason AP poll, which was expected to contend for an ACC title.

Back when 3G was rumored as a contestant for the NC State job, somebody on SN 'piped in' their fanboard comments. As my limited memory remembers, the insults for our Final 4 Coach was rampant. It seemed as though their fans were far above Coach Marshall in their wishes for a new Coach. Really? Well, okay because we want him here at 21st and Hillside long-term. Okay? They are doing 'finer than a frog-hair' now so whatever. Go for it.

SC wanted Frank Martin, and they seemed to want him bad. Great. I'm happy for them. "Carry on my wayward sons and how is that workin out for ya?" Cool beans baybay. Keep on keepin on. We are right behind ya. WAY back!!!

It's going to happen sooner than later. Head Coach Gregg Marshall will have his name on a banner in the raftors at 21st and Hillside. The longer we keep him here, the better. Give him a raise in pay and make it generous. He has earned every penny of it. Let's hope 3G builds a dynasty here and coaches here as long as we are fortunate enough to keep him. If that happens, WSU basketball will be rockin like Final Four rock stars at the best of the best "BATTLE OF THE BANDS!!!"

Don't act like you're being persecuted. Someone gave an opinion, and you criticized it with your own opinion. Having YOUR opinion criticized is exactly what you did to him, so kindly step off the cross. Your opinion isn't the end of any discussion.

Your opinion isn't being deleted. You have the freedom TO an opinion, not a freedom from having your opinion disagreed with.

I would also add that absolutist statements are also more likely to receive criticism (and legitimately so). To say that there is either a 0% or a 100% chance of something happening is, by definition, the most extreme stance that can be taken on any issue. If @Jamar Howard 4 President had said that it is highly unlikely that Fred would make the NBA for the reasons he listed, it probably would have elicited less backlash than the denial of any chance. Aside from being statistically unwise to make absolutist predictions, it comes off as much more smug to assert absolute knowledge of what will happen than to predict what is likely to happen.

                      Yep.

Very little in life is 0% or 100%. It's ridiculous to be absolutist about things that no one can know for sure.

I'm fairly positive I have a 0% chance to make an NBA roster -- however, there is a slight chance I could develop some bizarre medical oddity wherein an NBA teams puts me on their roster as a kind gesture for one night. I would thus put my chances of making an NBA roster somewhere around 0.00000000001% (I'm rounding up to protect my ego). I'm entirely sure that FVV has a better shot than me, though.

Attack my opinion all you want. I love conversations/arguments about ideas. My only complaint was that people were attacking me and ignoring the topic.
