I agree. I'm thinking the only exception to be made would be perhaps if the player went on to have a Hall of Fame type career somehow.

What if EO developed unexpectedly in 2-3 years and played 12 in the NBA and became a leading shotblocker and mediocre scorer, but ultimately got recognition in the NBA Hall of Fame? Would his performance at WSU merit hanging his number in the rafters?

I'm not saying I agree with it or would do it, just saying that it's about the only thing I could come up with outside of the current criteria that they could consider making an exception for. Would it be odd to have a HoF player not hung up in the rafters? Even if it were Ehimen, it'd at least be considered as that person would be the biggest success to come out of the program at that point.

Nope. I think it should be due to the career a player had at WSU, not what was done elsewhere.

I've thought about perhaps some combination of All-Conference Selections along with achieving the career top-5 or top-10 statistical categories at WSU, perhaps two or three out of scoring, rebounding, assists, winning percentage, but that would not be fair for players with shortened careers, or years when the team was scoring more orless than other years, because of style. However, if a player were All-Conference first team for multiple years, I think that might be worthy of considering as eligible, but just eligible to consider all the other things.

If there is specific criteria set for players, AA status, I don't think you change it at this point. You still have the HOF to honor worthy players.

Is there criteria for coaches? Did Ralph Miller's 200+ wins qualify him? I would think a NIT Championship and Final Four appearance would make Gregg worthy.

After he retires, hopefully many years from now, Mike Kennedy should be on a banner up there.

HC3GM is a stone cold lock for a banner. He could quit tomorrow and it will be hung.

He's coaching for a statue right now. Not many coaches in the country have earned one of those bad boys at _any_ school. Bring it home Coach!!!

I agree. Perhaps in the future there will be a Shocker that is a 3 time Larry Bird POY winner that scores 2000 points and 1000 rebounds, but isn't an AA. Maybe then…

Here are the per game averages for the 5 players hanging in the rafters plus Warren Jabali. Game averages are perhaps a better way of comparing career stats because when Dave and Warren played freshman were not eligible to play varsity ball and they did not play as many games in those days. Cliff bypassed his Senior year and only played 3 years as well.

Dave Stallworth: 80 GP, 24.2 PPG, 10.5 RPG, 4.9 APG
Cleo Littleton: 114 GP, 19.0 PPG, 7.7 RPG, (No assists numbers available)
                            Xavier McDaniel: 117 GP, 18.4 PPG, 11.6 RPG, 1.7 APG, 0.9 BSPG
                            Antoine Carr: 112 GP, 17.1 PPG, 6.9 RPG, 1.9 APG, 1.9 BSPG
                            Cliff Levingston: 91 GP, 16.2 PPG, 10.6 RPG, 1.6 APG, 0.7 BSPG

Warren Jabali: 78 GP, 16.7 PPG, 10.8 RPG, 5.5 APG

Dave and Warren were the only players on the above list that had a triple-double during their Shocker careers. Dave had 1 and Warren had 4. Dave's triple-double was against St. Louis where he had 19 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists. In Warren's 4 triple-double games he averaged 24.75 points, 16.25 rebounds and 11 assists.

While Dave and Warren played fewer games every year there were not many easy touches on those schedules.

Unfortunately for Warren he did not make any All-American team. Warren may well have been the best pure athlete to ever wear a Shocker uniform (in any sport).

I wish Hall would get a spot in the rafters BUT I think Early has a pretty good shot at being a AA next year (even if only a honorable mention).

The thing Carl and Cle have working against them is that they are only 2-year players. Love Carl. Will always be a favorite of mine, but probably not rafter worthy. Cle was pretty inconsistent this year. Let's see what he does next year. It will take something really special for Cle to earn a spot in the rafters. Can he put it all together consistently for that super-season. Should be fun ride watching him next year.
