      • I'd rather play DII schools than RPI 200+ schools. If this is what we get from the CBE, then the only thing going for it is that it is easy to travel to, and I'm not sure it is worth it for us. Funny, it is a good tournament most years except when we are in it.

W&M? um ... no way to put a happy face on that one, (12-17, 270 RPI) other than to say that they return 6 of 7 top scorers and should be better.
Actually, it isn't impossible that W&M will be good. While they have real trouble with consistency year to year, they have shown the ability to have a big year under their current coach as evidenced by the 09-10 season where they had 22 wins and an RPI of 61.

Not only do they return 6 of their top 7 scorers, they return their top 4 scorers, so they are only replacing 1 starter.

Last year they had 3 double overtime games and lost all 3. They were 1-2 in non-overtime games with a 1 possession margin of victory. In other words, they went 1-5 in close games. Just winning a couple more of those tight games gets them to near .500.

I was expecting to get a guaranteed 300+ RPI team this late in the game, but I don't see W&M being worse than 250 (as young as they were last year) and it isn't impossible they could be quite a bit better than that.

          • Tennessee State would've been solid if we would have gotten them when Cooper was still there. They had an assistant take over and if I had to guess, I'd say they're gonna go the Winthrop route.

I don't think W&M is going to be any good, but at least there's potential there,

              Same with BYU's 7 and Harvard's 6.

It makes pretty much no sense and is Metcalf garbage talk. Well gee Myron, we tried to get another BCS opponent on neutral terms (and using the term neutral loosely there), but they chickenshitted out and didn't want anything to do with us, like most teams "perceived higher" than us.

It should be at least a 7. If Myron has a big enough problem with it, maybe he should be the one pitting us up against the BCS chickenshits, since apparently we failed.

I am just ready for the Thanksgiving tourney 2014 if what I am hearing is true. Won't have to worry about crap Div 1 opponents in that one!!! ;)

That said I can't wait for THIS year to start. Gonna be a heck of a ride!!!!

                • The place we went to eat dinner tonight was promoting the Kstate-Gonzaga game. They gave us a card that would allow us to start buying tickets today (instead of Friday when they go on sale to the public). They gave us a code to enter at the site: paintwichitapurple.com to buy tickets.

I went to paintwichitapurple.com just to see the prices and what it looked like. I entered the code and it allowed me to start purchasing tickets. The prices were much higher than I expected (and higher than last year as I recall). The prices did start at $12 but they went up to $200 and most of the lower level seats in the decent sections were priced at $75.

Those prices probably explain why they are already promoting this game so much.

Are you in Wichita, or was this restaurant? I would like to avoid the establishment, if you provide a name or address.

                        • While Tennessee State is a pretty sad opponent, it will be fun to see how they fair against Tennessee since TSU plays the Vols after our CBE matchup but before the IBA game.

Also, the Saint Louis game is bound to be epic. It is definitely my most anticipated game in the 2013-14 season. If the Billikens are as tough as last year, that will be one of our most testing match-ups. I'm hoping we get a lot of black and yellow to travel for that one.

Yes the eating establishment is in Wichita. But I have seen a lot of promotion for the Gonzaga-Kstate game not just at this place. Even though the Wichita Wildcat Classic game is a week later than the WSU-Tennessee game, so far there has been a lot more promotion in Wichita for the Wichita Wildcat Classic than there has been for the WSU-Tenn. game. In fact, the Intrust web-site itself has done a lot of promotion for the Wildcat Classic as well.

CBE HOF Classic, games against Tennessee and Alabama highlight non-conference schedule

WICHITA, Kan.- Wichita State University’s 2013-14 men’s basketball schedule is highlighted by 18 home games, a rematch with Tennessee in Wichita, and a trip to the 2013 College Basketball Experience Hall of Fame Classic in Kansas City, seventh-year head coach Gregg Marshall announced today.

WSU could also play 11 teams that advanced to postseason play in 2013, three 2013 NCAA Tournament opponents, including Western Kentucky on ESPN, Saint Louis, and Davidson during the 2013-14 season.

WSU will also play Tennessee in WSU's fourth INTRUST Bank Arena game in downtown Wichita. Tennessee lost to Mercer in the first round of the 2013 NIT a year ago, while the Shockers lost to Tennessee in Knoxville, 69-60, in a non-conference game in 2012-13.

Another SEC foe, Alabama, which lost to Maryland in the NIT Regional final, is on the Shockers' schedule Dec. 17 in Tuscaloosa. In the two schools' last meeting, Wichita State defeated the Crimson Tide, 66-57, in the final of the 2011 Postseason NIT in Madison Square Garden.

After opening the season against Oklahoma Baptist in exhibition action Nov. 2, WSU opens its 108th regular-season against Emporia State Nov. 9 before playing host to Western Kentucky in a Midnight game Nov. 11. WSU will drop its 2013 Final Four banner that night.

WSU then plays two home games in the opening rounds of the CBE Hall of Fame Classic against William & Mary and Tennessee State.

Another non-conference highlight is a game at Tulsa, which the Shockers will play for the 123rd time in history with WSU leading the series 62-60. WSU won, 86-60, in Wichita a year ago, 77-67, in Tulsa in 2011-12, and 82-79, in 2010-11 in the renewal of the rivalry, which was also the Shockers' first game in the new INTRUST Bank Arena in downtown Wichita.

Then, on Nov. 25, Wichita State and DePaul play at 9 p.m. Central, on ESPN3 in Kansas City in the Championship Rounds of the CBE. Texas and BYU, which lost to Baylor in the semifinal of the 2013 Postseason NIT, play the 6:30 p.m. game. On Nov. 26, the consolation game will tip off at 6:30 p.m. Central on ESPNU, followed by the 2013 CBE Hall of Fame Classic championship game at 9 p.m. Central on ESPN2.

Wichita State then travels to Saint Louis to face the Billikins, which defeated New Mexico State and lost to Oregon in the NCAA Tournament a year ago to finish 28-7. The Shockers then play ORU, a 2013 Collegeinsider.com Tournament quarterfinalist (20-15) before playing host to Tennessee, and travelling to Alabama.

Two more home non-conference games against North Carolina Central, and 2013 NCAA participant, Davidson, wrap up the non-conference portion of the schedule. Davidson lost to Marquette its first game of the tournament to finish 26-8 in 2012-13.

WSU opens the Valley schedule Jan. 2 at SIU before home games against UNI, which finished third in the Missouri Valley Conference and lost to Weber State in the CIT semifinals, and Illinois State. WSU plays new MVC member Loyola in Wichita on Jan. 28, in the first meeting between the two schools since 1989-90. WSU holds a 18-9 advantage in that overall series.

Dates for the Missouri Valley Conference Basketball Tournament are March 6-9, 2014 at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Mo.

The ESPN and MVC-TV Network games will be announced Sept. 16, and Oct. 1, respectively, while the local television schedule will be announced soon after.

The MVC Wildcard Television weekend times will be announced Feb. 7, 2014.

All dates and times are subject to change.
