    Obviously.

Your example was clearly not a good one, though, as I easily doubled the revenue you were showing without adding merchandise or concessions ;) Obviously the principle you wanted to show is clearly still correct, but there's a lot more that goes into it than that, and using static prices to attempt to explain your point isn't a great idea. The goal should be to find the prices that maximize revenue and sell out the arena.

As for the fans who get their asses chapped, I know that sucks, but I hope they realize the fight WSU is going to be in for trying to provide the level of success we want without TV contract revenue.

His waste? Has Marshall put o a bunch of weight (wate?), or is the NCAA now dealing with excrement?

Wait a second -- come to think of it, the NCAA has pretty much always been involved with excrement.

No matter what decision is made, there's always gonna be people bitching about it. If they include it in the season ticket package, then people ***** that they can't pick their seats, that they got "screwed", and don't understand the concept that Koch Arena's configuration is different than IBA's. If they don't include it in the season ticket package, then people ***** that they have to fork out more money for another game. It's a lose-lose with the large segment of whiny WSU fans that are out there.

Tickets were a little high for the opponent the last two years. I can easily admit that. If they are scaled down just a smidge, given the this year's SEC opponent and WSU's achievements last year, I would hope the game would be an easy sell out. If not, then I guess the fanbase isn't as big time as led on to believe. Simple as that.

People who wait for or expect last-minute Creighton-like Groupon discounts are not only hurting the university directly, but also the perception of WSU and the fanbase. I sure don't wanna be K-State's ***** in our own backyard. That would look beyond bad.

        • Complaining about things is the great Wichita pastime. I swear a ton of people must live by the mantra, "I'm not happy unless I'm not happy."

Haha oops. That was a very unfortunate misspelling of the word I intended :)

Hell, I don't think it'd be a bad idea to give away the awful nose-bleed seats just to fill them up. You'll make a hell of a lot more money in concessions and merchandise sells from people that got in free just before game time than you would from empty seats. Or give them away strictly to students -- I'm not sure what the student ticket situation at Koch is, but it doesn't seem like it sits enough.

I also think the IBA games should be made into more of a spectacle. If they're being done yearly, start planning around them. Honor past superstars. Have Xavier McDaniel play Cheese Johnson in a game of horse. Meet and greets with the players and past stars. Make the IBA games a great opponent every year and turn it into a Shocker Day with a lot more random stuff attached to it than just the game for the guys shelling out for tickets.
Most games the student section has some empty seats. I understand the current system for students is for them to pick up a ticket within a few days of each game, but the ticket is "free" (already paid for by the entire student body in the student fee). That seems to me to be a very cumbersome means of distributing tickets.

When I was a student at a different school, students could purchase season tickets for, like, $20. Seating was first-come/first-served.

In the current age of barcodes, students could be asked to acquire tickets via Internet in the specified time period before each game and if the ticket was not scanned at the game (i.e., the student blew off the game), a fine could be established (e.g. the next request for a ticket would cost $10). That might be a way to assure that tickets acquired would actually have butts in the seats (or in the students case, butts in front of the seats).

My example was not static pricing. I used the abbreviation of "AVE" for average ticket pricing.

Also, I always prefer the IBA game to be excluded from the season ticket package. Therefore, I do not agree with the negative Nancy's, but I do beleive there are many who will not invest a single penny for the games at IBA.

Prior to the start of the 82-83 season, I was one of several hundred Shox students who stood in line for hours to get my hands on student season tickets. I think it was a hundred bucks. There was a bit of excitement that year as we were starting Antoine Carr and Cliff Levingston and had added Xavier McDaniel to the roster after a trip to the Elite 8 (how sweet it was to see the Shockers beat the Jayhawks in a game that really mattered). Needless to say, the student tickets sold out that year.

Your memory is a little fuzzy there. That was my freshman year and I was also one of those students in line for tickets. Cliff and Greg Dreiling had moved on after we went on probation but even without them that team would have challenged for the Final 4 that year. Had incredible 4th row seats right behind the Shocker bench. Got to see X lead the nation in rebounding as a sophomore, Aubrey rain in jumpers that would have easily been threes, Antoine's 360 degree dunk and his 47 point game on senior night!

                      • Nobody likes laying smack on all things Southmeth Missery State more than I do (well okay @ShockerFever: does) but I gotta give credit where it's due to Cuonzo for showing some nads and putting us on the schedule last year and this year. And you know what? He's gonna get rewarded with a high RPI, high visibility, high level game. Good on him.

Are you paying attention Coach Turgeon? Schedule us up!

                        • If Wichita can't sell out a F4 team against Tennessee, there's a problem. When the F4 team is WSU, then there's a bigger problem.

I have to think there are enough people who want to see that level of basketball and enough WSU fans in Wichita that IBA will sell out at about any askling price before there's a possibility of any discounted tickets.

People have been waiting for the discounts for the games against the lesser names we've had up until this point. Now we have a F4 team and a major name coming in. I don't think anyone who wants to go to that game is going to risk waiting for the discounted tickets. I think the game will sell out before there's any consideration of discounting.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

Uh, yeah...I thought about that last night after I wrote that and was trying to piece it together. I just remember the tremendous buzz around campus, and the city, about how good the team was going to be and how cheap the tickets were, the fact AC stuck around. I couldn't remember when in 82 we were put on probation but I do remember standing in line...probably right beside you; was that you in the bright yellow sun dress with "Go Shox" painted in black on your forehead?
