I believe this was 12 ET, so 11 PM here.

Personally I would prefer the 11 pm starting time over the 5 am time (I am pretty sure the players ould too). But you are right about our fan base. Most of them probably go to bed before 11 pm every night.

That leaves a five-minute window. What is the earliest starting time, 12:05 a.m.?

The midnight slot is the kickoff slot, which is generally good for getting a national audience, and based on the matchups last year, it looks like it is one of 4 premier slots (the others being 4 pm, 7 pm, and ~9 pm).

                • Had D B on kgso tonite and talked about scheduling and what goes into it. Darren said he works on the basketball schedule 365 days a year and talks to HCGM several times each day about different scenarios, One of the most difficult parts is trying to calculate who will be good the next year and beyond that as well as how good we will be. HCGM tries to give him an idea how he thinks they will be which I thought was interesting. Said some games you have to work on for years ie Alabama and others just kind of fall into place ie Tennessee. Savage asked Darren if he could just pick who he would like to start a home and home with and it would happen which school would it be? His answer might surprise you at first but he said Missouri. He felt it would be a game that WSU fans could really get enthused about. He said he didn't go with the obvious choice of one of the other Kansas schools because they still work to get those games all the time. I could see playing mizzou home and home and one in KC. How cool would that be? All in all Darren really came across well.

That's actually awesome. I love that we're the kickoff game and taking Gonzaga's spot from last season.

It's not a game I'd be chomping at the bit for, but they should be a top 50 RPI team, they're a decent name, and quite frankly we should be significantly better than them.

All in all I think they would be a very nice road win for us. And in an area relatively close to us which could help with recruiting.

                      • Regarding the midnight game (11 CST), I think we'll pull a good crowd. Have we forgotten that we just went on a Final Four run? Also it's part of a 24 hour marathon, so it's a special occasion. I am personally pumped for an odd starting time for a game. I'd bet we'd get a lot of students to show up for this one.

                        • No, I'm not looking a gift horse in the mouth.

Yes, I am aware of the existence of Butler, George Mason, and VCU.

Yes, I agree that any and all exposure on ESPN is good for the program.

                          BUT.

I would have thought and hoped that a Final Four team that was America's Team for at least a week if not two was worth a little more promotionally and due a little more respect than a midnight time slot.

I'll stand corrected when I see who lands at 4, 6, 8, 10, and even 2, but unless they're all bluebloods... I'm a little disappointed that ESPN didn't see a better angle on this one.

                          • Mizzou possibly being on the WSU schedule this year? Ha! That would be awesome. If so I can't wait to hear the KU fans getting all upset about that.. I already have a response planned in case this does happen. "Well maybe if your Jayhawks would agree to play WSU we wouldn't have to bother with scheduling Mizzou?"

I disagree. I think the kickoff is a good timeslot. I would think differently if we were at midnight and we were the third game of that night.

We have Gonzaga's time slot for a reason. I don't remember how this was promoted last year ... will we be getting a "starting with Wichita State versus WKU" in the commercials?

Let's be honest, we're playing WKU. The prime time slots last season were Kansas/Michigan State and Duke/Kentucky. Wichita State/WKU isn't in that ballpark. Considering we're the draw there, getting the midnight slot looks good to me.
