I came to the board as a Louisville fan looking at the different comments about the upcoming game and noticed this thread. As a Murray State Alum and current resident of Murray, KY I have talked to friends about the slim possibility for the Racers to leave one Valley for another. To give a little background of Murray State it has about 11,000 students but has been growing very quickly over the last 5 years. Th CFSB Center holds 8,600 and generally attendance hovers around 5000, the center also has a brand new practice facility attached to it which is rare for mid-majors (there is also an older arena on campus). As a result of our low population in Western Ky I find it highly unlikely that a bigger conference would take Murray but as far as fan support goes I am not sure the MVC could do better then Murray. Typically the OVC tournament is packed with Murray fans and even in this years championship against Belmont, Murray fan easily outnumber Belmont fans 2 to 1.

I see more potential in Murray State than I see in any of the other candidates. Lots of national name recognition (compared to the others, save Valpo), good facilities, strong support, tremendous recent success. The big question is will Murray capitalize on that recent success and with a move to the MVC become a strong compliment to the top half of the Valley? But with Murray at least that's a question. Some of the other "candidates" are so ridiculously underqualified (UIC...cough...UMKC...cough...) we might as well be considering girl scout troops and senior citizen rec centers.

God I'd rather be discussing MWC or AAC visits to the WSU campus right now.

Personally I hope WSU moves on to bigger and better so Murray has a better shot to get in.

If we added Valpo, we might get to see an astronaut! :)

I didn't mean to come off as a jerk. I like watching non-power schools win in the NCAA tournament and am hoping Wichita State wins it all. And yes, I am a big MWC football fan. I watch MWC football a lot.

The MWC is a football first conference, has 12 football playing schools and 11 basketball schools. There are at least three football options ahead of a non-football school that include UTEP, Tulsa and Houston. As far as forum members calling me uninformed or uneducated, read the fifth bullet item in this article:

ichita State has the biggest stumbling block taken care of for football, the stadium. Like I said, not trying to be a jerk, get that football program revived and your options increase.

And by the way GO SHOCKERS!!!!!

13 teams for FB seems a bit unwieldly.

From where I sit in Vegas, the MWC is a basketball conference...

Agreed. Much better basketball programs than football programs, on the whole. When I think of UNM, UNLV, USU, and SDSU, I don't think of football. That's a very strong basketball core.

                        • If the MWC sees itself as a football first conference, that'll be its downfall. It's an afterthought at the BcS level but is one of the best basketball conferences. With that said, two of the three "ahead" of us according to him have zero desire to go west as they're already in the AAC. UTEP may go, but then they're at an odd number for football. If they even the football out, they're most likely at an odd number for basketball again.

ootball is driving this TV deal. Basketball plays a part no doubt, but football is the driver.

And recall the new BCS agreement that goes into affect in 2014. The highest rated team from the group of five receives an automatic birth in a BCS bowl. And for the foreseeable future, that sixth auto bid is the MWC's to lose.

As far as being in the AAC v2 (there already is an AAC, the Appalachian Athletic Conference) is it nothing like it was when Houston, Tulsa and UTEP first joined. We will see if these schools want to stay in the AAC v2.

Yep. That article mentions nothing about basketball. The football games are the only thing that matters clearly.

I mean, who would ever pay $3mil a year to a School that doesn't have football??

                              • If there are many people that feel the same as this poster, then WSU would be better off going to the AAC. We would have a home for football there too, if it is ever added.
