Some conferences take academics into account. The Big 10 prides itself on academics and they tell themselves that that's more important when the SEC destroys their football teams.

But at least UIC is in a large market. They probably don't get attention in that market but if they ever started winning on a regular basis they might.
My wife and I have lived in Chicago the past 10 years and there wasn't a single time that we or any one we've ever known has sought out going to a UIC game. I've been to a sky game, fire games, even depaul games over UIC, there's just too much competition. The only advantage would be recruiting and then again there's already 3 schools in Illinois in the mvc, I wonder if adding UIC would hurt them?
I just want to stand on land...

I hope Sexton has the MWC on line 1 and Bardo has the AAC on line 2.
If by MWC you mean Mountain West, you better get that football program on the fast track because you need football to join the Mountain West.

The thinking with MWC is that Hawaii is a football-only member of that conference. Some think the MWC might consider adding a non-football playing member to give make them a full 12 team conference in most sports, not just football.

My take is the majority of our Shockernet community thinks this is somwhat of a longshot although not entirely out of the realm of possibility.

Simply uniformed. To paraphrase Rush Limbaugh, a low-information poster.

                Possibly...or a troll.

This board is awesome and has been a great resource to stay updated on all our pub this week, but man has the posting quality ever taken a hit. It was inevitable though.

True, one of the very few downsides of the F-4 run although a minor nuissance really.

A lot of envious outsiders whose teams have been sitting on the couch for the last week or more. It's a statement to where we are.

What's fun is to try and figure out what fine universities these trolls represent. Lots of interesting psychological warfare going on to try and get us irritated at anybody and everybody.

It's probably one guy in his mom's basement in the suburbs of Omaha with 54 different email addresses.

My bet is a MWC university fan. New Mexico. Originally looking for a hope that they could land Marshall after Alford left.

If you think the new posters when the Shox are the "rock stars" are a problem, wait till the results drop off a bit - if they do. The posters that show up when the Shox are on a downward trajectory are the real gems.

Fortunately, the B1G laughs all the way to the bank when they make more money than the SEC despite having a clearly inferior football product.

In addition, the CIC (basically the B1G and University of Chicago) is an excellent organization that truly benefits the member institutions. That is why they require their members to be AAU schools.

A lot of conferences pay lip-service to academics, but other than the Pac and the B1G, I don't see why academics matter. The Pac values academics, and the B1G has a major research alliance of member schools that makes the schools better for being members. The ACC likes to talk up academics, but really they just have a core of great academic universities that try to pretend like they're not associated with the other schools. I really don't think Florida State has benefited at all from being members of the conference -- we're moving steadily up in the World News & Report rankings with the goal of gaining AAU membership, but there is very little collaboration done with ACC members that I've seen. We do more with Florida than we do with other ACC schools. The SEC seems to only be worrying about academics lately because they don't like being made fun of.

There are some MWC fans very opposed to adding a non football school. I figured gman2 was one of them.

Very possible. But there are MWC fans in favor of adding a non football school. Same for the AAC.
