Most of the argument is that the guy who was shoved to the floor put the offender in a virtual headlock before he was shoved. The ref whooshed on the initial headlock and only saw the dwarf toss.

His arm was up around the head, but that could very well be because the other guy had a forearm in the guys upper chest/pit area. The arm was up there, but I think headlock is a bit much.Infinity Art Glass - Fantastic local artist and Shocker fan

Most of the bubble teams' fates (along with our seeding line) will be determined today and tomorrow. Below are some key games this afternoon (times are CST):
NC State vs. Virginia- 1 PM on ESPN2- we want NCSU to take this one, as a win for UVA will likely move them onto the right side of the bubble
Butler vs. LaSalle- 1:30 PM on I'm guessing NBCSports?- go Butler. LaSalle is right behind WSU in many projections, a win could leapfrog us
Tennessee vs. Alabama- 2 PM on ESPNU- I don't think Tennessee leapfrogs us with a win here despite their h2h advantage on us
Tulsa vs. Memphis- 5:30 PM on CBSSports- this is one of the few remaining bid thief possibilities. Tulsa hosts the Conf USA Tourney, we need Memphis to win this one despite the SOS boost a Tulsa W would provide
Iowa State vs. Kansas- 6:30 PM on ESPNU- Iowa State is a seeding peer for the Shocks and it would be smart to root for KU. I just can't.
Vanderbilt vs. Kentucky- 6:30 PM on ESPN3- huge bubble game. SEC Tourney is in Nashville which helps Vandy, go Commmodores
UMass vs. Temple- 8 PM on NBCSports?- Temple has somehow jumped us in some projections. A loss here sends them tumbling back down.
Mizzou vs. Ole Miss- 8 PM on ESPN3- Ole Miss needs a win to get in. Mizzou is already solidly in and we can't jump them. Go Tigers.
There are others that are somewhat relevant (Iowa vs. Michigan State, etc.) that I was too lazy to include, but this at least hits the high points.Last edited by Guest; March 15, 2013, 10:37 AM.

BINGO!

Are you saying they should have just let the guy shove another player to the floor for no reason and not called anything? I know that's what Digger Phelps was arguing, but I'd have a hard time as an official accepting that we just ignore a non basketball play during a dead ball and pretending it didn't happen.
We are mandated to get any non-basketball play at all times.
We cover non-basketball plays in pre-game with a simple message - there is no primary on a NBP. If you see, go get it.
Maintaining composure is paramount in every day life, even more so in a basketball game with 4.5 seconds to go and your team is winning.
And Digger is a dope.
That is all.Above all, make the right call.

the only problem I had with that game was that they gave charlotte 3 shots, as I thought he was fouled way before he attempted a 3 from half courtFollow me on twitter: https://twitter.com/Shox_KCfan

The foul they called was on the guy that ran into him after he'd already left the floor. You could try and argue that he jumped to pass, but when he flung it towards the goal, you can't say he changed him mind after the whistle. You go off of what the evidence shows and he appeared to shoot the ball.Follow me on twitter: https://twitter.com/Shox_KCfan

Some people will argue about continuation of a layup and I don't blame them as it's not called consistently, at least not at the HS level. As soon as the player picks up the ball, he's in the act of shooting. So he may be fouled right after that, but he still can take a step and finish his layup attempt. You could argue that the case we're talking about is similar. The player had dribbled and was going toward the basket. He picked the ball up and took/finished taking a step and was fouled in the act of shooting.
I saw the video being discussed late last night on officiating.com. Everyone seemed to agree with how the calls went. The only debate was if the coach deserved both T's. But as one guy said, we weren't on the floor and we don't know what he said. He definitely deserved one for marching to half court and screaming like that. I read one report where he'd been warned a couple of times about coming out of his box too far.Infinity Art Glass - Fantastic local artist and Shocker fan
