The impact of the scheduling mandate is overrated. The key is winning games. The overall record of each valley team is way more important than the records of their opponents. The goal should be to schedule the best set of teams you can expect to beat a good percentage of the time.

In 2006 their were four really good teams, four above average teams, and 2 ok teams. It was more about the quality of the teams...

And upon checking the guide, if there were a play-in game tonight, it'd be on ESPN. I think both teams involved will receive some level of consideration. Especially if 12 is an option.

Not entirely true. When it comes to bids, RPI and SOS both play a role. Having a higher SOS gives more validity to the higher RPIs. It also gives those teams that could be considered more opportunities for Top 100 wins. Yes, winning matters. And this comes down to scheduling smart. Schedule games you feel you can win but against teams that should win a lot of games as well and be an overall boost. Targeting average schools who will have decent RPIs is big. It's much more than just winning. It's winning against the right teams.
