The MVC cannot replace Creighton with one team, but can do so by bringing in three good/decent programs. Add Belmont, Murray State, and someone else and you'll rejuvenate the conference with new blood and keep the conference respectable.

If SIU, BU and MSU can return to their previous stonger levels and if INS, ILS and UNI can maintain solid programs the Valley could be decent.
I'm not expecting too much out of DU and EU over the long haul and if the Valley wants to bring in more than one team it should be to replace Drake and/or EU in an attempt to strengthen the conference from the bottom up. This may happen as a matter of course in the next few years of its own accord.

Elgin needs to go big or go home. Creighton will be a huge loss and you cannot replace them with a single team. Unless of course we land a Butler, St. Louis, or other like, kind and quality program which won't happen. Therefore, Elgin needs to expand the MVC to a 12 team league by adding average to above average programs. My thought process is, three average programs that are capable of making deep runs = one Creighton.
Of course enticing another CU type program is ideal, but given that those types of programs within our footprint are already spoken for, settle for the next best thing, Denver, Belmont, Detroit, Milwaukee, ORU, and Valpo to name a few.

This whole Creighton is leaving thing is pretty upsetting. No way they will schedule WSU in the foreseeable future. MVC takes a huge step backwards with them leaving. We had horrible leadership in the 90's and look where our basketball program was. The last decade has brought respectability back to Wichita St. basketball...but still not enough to have a better/bigger conference call our name. We will again be "stuck". WSU's leadership needs to be extremely proactive (if not aggressive) in pursuing a move to the MWC like NOW!!!!! Creighton's leaving kills the Valleys decently good national reputation.
Some of the talk here is to add Murray St., Valpo, Milwaukee, Texas San Antonio, Oral Roberts......my God guys...........YUCK!!!!!!
Proactive.....aggresssive.....proactive.....please Wichita St. leadership!!!!!!! Don't sit on your hands!!!!!!!FINAL FOURS:

On another thread (can't remember which one and too lazy to look) someone said we couldn't go to 12 members because we'd have to split into divisions and we'd therefore end up playing fewer conference games. Can someone explain why we'd have to split the conference into divisions? Why can't we play a 22 game round robin conference schedule? Seems like this would solve some of our scheduling issues. Even some of our weak sisters have better RPI's than the nonconference chumps we schedule--and we wouldn't have to pay them to play at Koch."It's amazing to watch Ron slide into that open area, Fred will find him and it's straight cash homie."--HCGM

The question is: What is Doug Elgin doing about the conference? It seems to me like he is not very proactive, and is just content with the status quo. Reminds me of several of our Representatives and Senators who are content with their job security. We need someone younger, 45-50 years old, to run our conference.

I prefer the idea of adding 3 teams, not 1. My thinking is this. As it stands now, even with CU in the Valley, we are generally considered a 2 bid conference at best. CU leaves, the odds say you become, more than likely, a one bid conference. I know that might be a reach given that WSU doesn't win in St Lou, but just play along.
If you add just 1 other team, undoubtably someone of much less stature than CU, you've probably added someone that may very well be a 1st division team in the Valley, but not necessarily one that's going to get a Dance card. The Valley is probably better off than if they were without that team, but the Valley still drops a place or two in conference stature.
Instead, add 3 teams of the same caliber as the 1 team above. Two things happen. First, one of three is more likely to earn a Dance card in any given year than just one. Second, adding 3 1st division Valley caliber teams raises the conference's standing, maybe back to where is was before CU left. You haven't replaced a team of CU's level, but you have brought in 3 quality teams that can raise the conference's RPI average more than if you added just the 1 team.
