What Do We Do With 9 Valley Teams?

On another thread (can't remember which one and too lazy to look) someone said we couldn't go to 12 members because we'd have to split into divisions and we'd therefore end up playing fewer conference games. Can someone explain why we'd have to split the conference into divisions? Why can't we play a 22 game round robin conference schedule? Seems like this would solve some of our scheduling issues. Even some of our weak sisters have better RPI's than the nonconference chumps we schedule--and we wouldn't have to pay them to play at Koch.

Nobody wants to play 22 conference games. That really limits the flexibility and ability to schedule OOC games.

Think bigger.

Bring Butler back to the MVC. It's a better fit than with Big Priest for several reasons. Get Tulsa and Memphis back in here. WSU plus those three have enough draw to get a competitive TV contract don't they? Get either of those two and drop Evansville (I don't hate on Evansville but there are conferences that would be a better fit and less pressure on them).

When did BJ's UNL fans start to outnumber Shocker fans? I thought we always had more in STL than anybody else? Did all the futility in winning the tournament finally take its toll?

Definitely more BJ fans than Shocker fans this year. I wuold guess the final game was 60-40.

What day to the MVC tourney tickets go on sale by the way? December?

Creighton was ranked #15 in pre-season polls and brought back the only returning First Team All-American. They were expected to win the Valley easily, and the fans bought tickets well in advance because of that. If the same situation happened in Wichita, I would bet we could pretty easily match or get close to those numbers.

Good point. I think WSU will continue to have a good showing in STL

Here's a question I've not seen yet so please don't flame me to a crisp. When HCGM came to WSU he came because he thought the Valley offered him a chance to get out of a one bid league and come to a league that consistently offered more than that. With the loss of CU do we become more and more like where he came from? I'm not saying he's going to leave at all, but that was one of the reasons he said he came here and I fear the conference will be taking a step back at least temporarily until we find a new replacement or replacements. He's done an amazing job and right now it will be hard seeing another program in the league able to keep a team at the level he's kept ours so it could be a legitimate concern. I guess only time will tell.

Even without CU, we're not destined to one bid status. The conference he came from was because it was difficult for more than one team to become a top 100 program and especially a top 50 that would be required to be considered for an at-large. Even without CU, we could have 3-6 teams in the top 100 on any given year. Programs are moving forward as a whole I think.

And regardless of that, we're not destined to double digit seed status if we get in like he was in the Big South. With a good season, we're still capable of being a top 5 seed. Plus he can recruit at a much higher level. Gonzaga built their reputation in what was a one bid conference. It was worse than what the MVC will be without CU. And odds are we'll add a quality program that will help the Valley stay in the top 10 in RPI as a conference. The sky is not falling

With that mind, what do you think our great leader is doing? Cowering in a corner somewhere?

Like the great CBB stated, expectations.

Considering this was supposed to be a "rebuilding" year and we were tabbed as a middle of the pack finisher, I think we held up our end pretty well.

I would estimate CU had a minimum of 3x more fans than we did at the championship game.

I like giving them crap, but they travel very well, in fact better than we do at the moment. Their student section also blows ours to smithereens. WSU needs to take a page from their book and schedule spring break's opening weekend to coincide with the tournament. CU has done that for a decade and has built a pretty awesome, gin-soaked tradition where a huge portion of its student body makes the annual trek together. It also plays a role in getting those same people back for future tournaments once they become alums.

It will be a very big adjustment for CU if the C7 tournament is held in, say, Brooklyn. Their attendance will plummet.
