I remember that game. Let's hope with WSU closed today they make good use of the time and get the parking lots and access roads into WSU cleared. When we got to the UAB game all you could do was just pull in and park. Some crazy parking lines that night. We were all over the place. And if I remember right when the plows did come through they just pushed the snow up all around the edge of the parking lots and piled it where they could in order to keep the driving aisles clear. It was really fun parking for the next game as well because the snow had not melted because it was piled so high in places.

Maybe 6500 actually made it to the arena (which was a stunning figure, stunning Coach at the time) and watched the Shocks put away the Blazers and their angry coach. That storm sure seemed worse, from a snow depth perspective.Kansas is Flat. The Earth is Not!!

I do remember HCGM's comments about it and how he expected on a couple of thousand fans to show up considering the start time was moved back several hours to allow the parking lots to be cleared. Frankly, I am surprised he hasn't mentioned that game more often when he talks about our fan support in the first couple of years....
I agree with WuDrWu, the snow did seem deeper that night than it does now. There are nights when I think that Sal Paradise was right.

The reason in which the snow depth seemed higher was the fact that it was blowing and drifting snow. It snowed maybe 7-8 inches total but drifts were a mile high. The mountains are calling, and I must go.

Yes I do recall the UAB game fondly. My wife and I were running about 5-10 min late and got stuck in the parking lot right as the game was starting! Some nice WSU fans helped get our car unstuck and parked properly, unfortunately I accidentally blasted one of them with a face full of snow from the tire! They were very nice though. We will always remember Shocker fans helping eachother out. Thanks =)

Here is what ESPN says about their top 10 "Giant Killers" -- "Check out our ranking of the 10 highest-rated Giant Killers from outside the power conferences. These are the teams that our model projects as being most likely to be able to pull off upsets in the 2013 NCAA tournament.
5. Wichita State Shockers
GK rating: 47.1
The Shockers are still in contention for Giant status, should they finish the season strongly. But if they end up as a GK, they will wear those clothes comfortably.
Wichita State is solid across the board. The Shockers are one of the country's better offensive rebounding teams (37.3 percent of possessions) and are even better on the defensive boards (25.3 percent, sixth in the country). The latter isn't part of the model's GK secret sauce, but it does affect Wichita State's base power rating, which is better than that of a projected No. 10 seed. Given that Wichita State is also above-average in forcing steals and attempting 3s, and also plays at a slower-than-average pace, the team has a lot of ways to beat favorites in the tourney.
7. Detroit Titans
GK rating: 37.4
At first glance, the Titans don't seem like Giant Killers at all. They play fast (3.3 more possessions than the average team.) They only grab 0.8 more offensive rebounds per 100 possessions than the average team. And their base power rating is only 62nd in the country, so they aren't likely to be underseeded. But weighted for schedule strength, they are plus-2.0 in steals and plus-3.2 in 3PA/FGA.
And they also get to the line more than average, which is a warning sign for a Giant but good news for a Killer. For Detroit, then, it's about doing a lot of things pretty well rather than standing out in one particular category." --------
Sounds like we need to slow them down and to not send them to the line that much. Tall order if you ask me.
