    Kicking

What I remember most about WSU's game with Illinois State last year in the MVC tournament was that they had a guy who spent the whole game kicking Garrett Stutz in the back of the knees. After the game, Stutz said he got kicked in the back of the knees about 2 dozen times & yet the ref's didn't call it. I was there for the game & saw it happen. i was so irate about it that I wrote ADES a letter about it later. What got me the most was that the Illinois State Coach saw it happening & didn't do anything about it. In effect, he condoned it. I'm glad he left Illinois State & is now at SMU as an assistant coach with Larry Brown. At least he's out of the MVC now.

My memory of this incident was that he was roughing up Garrett during the game and then a loose ball scrum happened and Wilkins was lying in the court and he kicked up at Garrett who was above him and connected. I think that he was kicked out of the game for the incident. Don't remember which half.

Not much, just that it was emotional and left it at that.

              Cooler heads

Missouri Valley Conference commissioner Doug Elgin said the matter of Sunday’s post-game confrontation between Illinois State and WSU coaches is closed. He said no discipline will be handed out, following conversations by Valley officials with people from both schools.

"We came close to a dangerous incident," Elgin said. “Any time you have the emotions and volatity of teams right after the game I think we’ve got to be very careful to keep them separate."

WSU defeated Illinois State 68-67 at Redbird Arena, leading to a shouting match that brought security guards scurrying to the scene in the hallway that leads to the locker rooms. Even after restoring order, security guards escorted WSU players and coaches until they exited the arena.

"We need to always review our post-game security, the way in which our teams cross on the court and sometimes back-stage," Elgin said. "We need to remind ourselves of the need to be respectful."

So again we have the Wilkins incident at the Valley Tourney, the Jackie kick and the after game incident and the only discipline to come out of this is the wrong free throw shooter (Which was correctly addressed).

About on par with the MVC's usual stuff. It is a joke. At least they haven't been going after WSU for stuff. And the ref's seem to be letting us play a little more, even with the number of fouls called.

They can wait until the Valley tournament and then kick us right in the gut.

But I think it is a good thing that no discipline was handed out for the post-game confrontation. Letting the issue die is best for all involved.

I agree. Spats need to be allowed to die unless someone broken to law or something.

I don't care to see anyone get in trouble over a basketball game, I just want the red birds to grow up.

Not from any reports I've heard. Mostly yelling. Probably some colorful language.

                              Geez.

There is nothing here. The only reason it is an issue is because everyone on both sides tried to make it more than it was.

Things are smoother. Not smooth as there is still some animosity over some events, but all in all cooler heads prevailed and security would probably not have been needed.

Anyone want to talk basketball? Detroit maybe?
