By definition it is not a 1, which it the call they made. Yep. Could have called a 2, but chose to split the difference. Makin it up as they go.

Wow, the Illinois State fans watched this on TV, saw the commentators bullet points, and assumed that what they posted on TV is the law.

From the NCAA rule book:

Section 26. Fighting

Art. 7. When during the course of play (live ball), an individual strikes an
opponent with the hand, elbow, arm, foot, knee or leg in a nonconfrontational
manner but the act is excessive or severe, it shall be ruled as a flagrant 2 personal
foul and not a fighting action. When a defined body part is used to strike an
opponent but the contact is not severe or excessive, a judgment shall be made by
the official as to whether the contact is a flagrant 1 personal foul.

That is straight out of the rulebook (though the emphasis is mine).

The referees had EVERY right to reduce the Flagrant 2 foul to a Flagrant 1 foul. Other than missing the foul in the first place, they absolutely handled this situation properly. That is from the effing rulebook people.

Those would be the non-delusional fans they have. I know there are several quality fans from ISUr that have come on here over the years, but they have some fans that are just ignorant. I guess all fan bases probably do.

Some non kick related thoughts about the game.

1) The ball/player movement problems were back in the first half. These need to get solved quick.
2) It was Armstead's turn to step up and he did big time.
3) Loved the end of game play call to free up Cle' for three.
4) I get the feeling that IlSU will be better next year when Carmichael, Brown and Wilkins are gone. Am I crazy?

They might play cleaner at least. They won't be bad at all and could very well be better. It is hard telling what a team will do after losing seniors. A perfect example is our team this year. None of us figured it would be going like it has and is.

Crazy. Muller is a crap coach who is 7-8 in league play with arguably the most talented roster. He'll be jobless in t-minus 3 seasons.

Can anyone explain to me the "stand around play"?

We dribble the ball up and stop after we cross half court. We dribble at half court for about 15 seconds while everybody just stands around. Player A then dribbles to the top of the key where he gets a ball screen from player B. Player A then hands the ball off to player C who proceeds to dribble to half court and reset the "stand around play". Player C then looks at the shot clock that is running down and runs a quick play and gets off a terrible three point attempt.

3 really good and experienced officials (I'll admit I don't care for Janssen but that's on me) got together and got the call right. Imagine that.

You need to get that "feeling" checked, and checked fast because that's batshit crazy.
