I would be interested in hearing comparisons from the older and wiser posters on this board: when was the last time we had a true point guard with a skill set comparable to FVV? My memory goes as far back as Joe Griffin and IMO we haven't had a guy capable of carving up a defense like Fred does in the last 25 years. Ragland was a very good PG but he was not particularly strong with the ball/most of his upside came from his shooting accuracy; Hannah was much slower than FVV; Brauer was a fan favorite but not even close in terms of ability; Griffin was good (especially as a freshman) but still not in FVV's league.

He is a Freshman who had a really good game against a marginal Valley team.
Hey, I'm a big admirer of his talents and potential.
But let's not elect him to the Shocker Hall of Fame just yet.
That is all.
Fred is pretty good, but Ref is right. Let's see how he performs against quality defenders."Prediction is very difficult, especially if it is about the future."

Comparing the first 17 games to the last 9 games,
1st 17 games Last 9 games Assists 31 31 Turnovers 28 7
That 9 games is essentially once around the league. Excluding his last 9-1 performance, that is still 22 - 6 for the previous 8 games. Pretty darned good!"I not sure that I've ever been around a more competitive player or young man than Fred VanVleet. I like to win more than 99.9% of the people in this world, but he may top me." -- Gregg Marshall 12/23/13 :peaceful:

Nice line.

In one of the interviews someone (I think it was Marshall) made a reference to Fred as "The Truth". that might be a good nickname for him.
He's already being mentioned in the same sentences with Mike Jones and Matt Braeuer for memorable shots. . the way he played in front of 17,000 fans on national TV against the #1 team in the nation, I might also suggest Ice or The IceMan.The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

I will choose my words carefully here so that Club AARP does not jump down my throat like they did in February.
Fred is the most talented freshman point guard I have seen during my time as a Shocker fan. I am thrilled to see him doing well on the national stage and it is a GREAT taste of what's to come in the next 3+ years. The ceiling on this kid is just scary, scary high.
ETA: These numbers are just too good to remain buried on the bottom of the last page. Copied below.
Update: FVV followed up this game with a clunker at Illinois State where he played poorly.
In the 9 games since:
136 Minutes Played
20 Assists
3 Turnovers
